HIGH POWERED WEAPONS AT PHL AIRPORT

Urge all IAM Brothers and Sisters to attach photos to USaviation of breakrooms and hallways underground in Philly. I am sure the whole world will understand why things don't work well in this station. It all comes down to how the employees are treated! I am sure PHLFORCE can make these photos appear on a thread.

Guys I worked there for years. This happens every time the company goes on one of their hiring sprees. They want to get rid of hard working senior people and are getting the bottom of the barrel there. This is what happens when a company isn't held in check with Unions, local and federal governments. I remember the club 4, the blue shirts and the red shirts. I also remember when the union let the company get rid of the utility, the replacements were terrible. They had people on the AOA who were still waiting for their background checks. A lot of them never passed and were eventually let go. Then I remember that the new utility people were literally stealing whole duty free carts [that had thousands of dollars of duty free]off the planes. That is what happens when you don’t want to pay reasonable wages. If the company and the unions don’t get their acts together this will continue to be a serious problem. This stuff is perpetuated by the fact there are no mentors, because the senior guys have gone into the self-defense mode. The senior guys try to stay together because they are being out numbered. These guys that are coming in should be mentored not only by the union but the company also. The company will only invest into these guys when the holidays come around then it is business as usual. When you hire as many of these kids as you do and they are coming straight out of the city they can't seem to escape the city. It isn't a reflection of a particular race it is just a reflection of the haves and have nots in our society. The sad thing is you guys only hear the horror stories but you never hear of the success stories. I think of these guys everyday and hope we can help them turn their lives around. These young men and women are fighting an up hill battle. The company doesn't care and neither does this crappy union. We as mentors are in a position to help, but feel over loaded. Don’t let the fact that there are a few bad apples reflect on the rest of these hard working people!!!!!!!!!! GO IBEW!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lets make this a career again and not just a stop over job!!!!!

Dawg, I tend to agree with you. When we, the senior guys, ignore or show disdain to the new hires we get the same back from them, but when we welcome them and engage them they seem to feel more comfortable and are usually pretty good workers, and we find out soon they're pretty good people too. I guess we forget that regardless of their backround, race, etc... they deserve to be given a chance. What the hell, we were new once. Most of the senior guys tend to work together, but occasionally a new hire on OT slips in. A couple of years ago the feeling was if you ignore them they will go away, but nowadays things seem to be getting better. I think the mentoring is an excellent idea, but not just from the company or union, but also the existing workforce. Thanks.

Respect and respect for others is a must! The unfortunate thing is if you don't respect yourselves how can you respect others. These kids do not have many roll models. It comes down to the fact that they are the lost kids! It would be nice to see more proactive intervention in the younger years of the kids. We spend more money on entertainment and not enough on our youth! This is a societal issue!

The tragic part of this post is how it affected me, a worker in PHL,
It doesn't surprise me at all, I'm glad no one was harmed...yet.

Bob,
Im suprised you didnt here about it. Ask around.

This is another major issue! I can't believe that more people have not posted here. Is this one of those things we just let go by without talking about it and holding someone accountable? Safety isn't just about holding the company accountable. It is about holding these people the company and the unions accountable!

It’s a good thing all the mirrors in the employee restrooms have been broken long ago.

These guys would be in there practicing De Niro lines.

How has the IAM put the company on notice, to make our lives at the airport safe? Have they talked to the government about safer work areas? I would like to think right after this situation they called Parker and said that is what happens when you hire from the bottom of the barrel. If this was a respectable job again then they could screen potential employees better, because they would have more young responders to the career adds. Oh yeah we don't want this to be a career! We just want it to be a stop over job!

I love how the Co."USAIR" squashes these stories to the media. Tues Oct 30th at night the ATF and FBI raided C-con units below in the Usair breakrooms at PHL looking for stolen weapons. We were told they have GPS systems in the weapons to track them while soldiers go over to IRAQ. They ripped out ceiling tiles in the unit. Today Nov.2nd I was told they found the M-16 behind a locker empty with no ammo. Sounds like Parkers security is doing real well at PHL. Matter a fact it seems like its getting worse.
there where no m16 found its all bull crap..i was working that day...and there was no raid it was company sucurity that was looking in the ceiling tiles.. and as a formore marine gps is only on the crates they ship them in not on the weapons...use your brains if it was on the weapon they would know right where they where....think before you write

gps is only on the crates they ship them in not on the weapons...use your brains if it was on the weapon they would know right where they where....think before you write
but gps will only get you to within 30 feet, more or less. Of course, the gps unit would also be visible. It would be pretty stupid to take something/anything with a tracking unit attached. Of course, YOU SHOULDN'T STEAL AT ALL!
