I think everyone on this forum has good intentions and are trying to be helpful. I'm constantly impressed with the level of intelligent conversation (and grammar!). I realize this sounds nitpicky but some other aviation forums are brutal with the level of childish namecalling they throw around.
Anyway back to the topic...If you have a family and debt (etc) I would suggest you spend your money on family and job hunting, not on further flight training (assuming you have a CHPL)! The difference between 100 and 105 hours is negligable to an employer. They'll hire the mature, responsible, motivated individual. Since you're in the T.O. area there are a good number of companies within a couple of hours drive. Keep knocking at the same doors, politely of course! Most companies want to train a new guy to fly their way, and will pay for your PPC, and if they don't you might consider moving on anyway. I was hired for my first job with only piston experience and given the req'd training on a 206, free of charge. I realize I'm lucky, but there really are some good people out there in this business, regardless of all the negativity!
Good luck and don't give up, but keep it real bro!
ya, that's tough. it's one thing when you are single but quite another when you have a wife and youngin's.
one aspect of this industry is the chance that one may have to move around a bit and that can be difficult when one's nest is settled......
i guess the best advice is get to know the local crews and companies. although it means spending more money, if you want to stay in Ontario you could consider going for your IFR rating and get on as a f/o with the air ambulance...........
donnybrook, that's why i stay on this forum only! too much verbal diaharrea on some of those other forums.................
I've spent almost ten years flying fixed wing trying to make enough money to make the swithch. Almost 4k hrs amd change later I'm back knocking on doors, sending resumes, and am THRILLED to be on the short list of four companies for the spring. Do I actually believe one of these offers will come through? Not on your life, been around flying too long, but I do KNOW that I'm going to get something in the spring. Always said, "until I'm in a machine with my first paycheck in my pocket...!" Have tent, will camp at front door.
My buddy is in your boots, 100hrsTT, he just worked a summer for free. He was provided accomodation, and about 40hrs on a 206 in the mountains by a guy who's owned a company for thirty years. Lucky guy. You'll do fine, as will I. You just NEED to stay positive - a smile will get you hired over a log book any day, even when you've got time. Some guys forget that down the road.
