So what laws were broken when he acquired the gun?

What laws would have prevented this from happening?

Tougher background checks, more inter-agency information sharing (he had a previous history of mental health issues), and longer wait periods before a purchase is allowed would all be decent starts.

But maybe the better question is what law(s) allowed this to happen?

For decades, WI had 48 hr. waiting period to purchase a handgun. Scott Walker & co. decided that was unnecessary, and now a 24 yr. old woman is dead.

You know I once was onboard with the whole mental health screening, but there's one problem.

For women who are victims of violent crime, assault, rape, etc., and seek counseling after being traumatized, they could easily fall into that category of never being able to purchase/owning a gun for self defense.
There's nothing worse for a women who has been victimized, then only to be faced with the possibility of it happening again, when her power to protect herself has been taken away.

Now you care about victims?

Pretty much....

I remember back early during the Clinton era in Southern California. All the mass layoffs from aerospace industry, tax hikes and coincidently, road rage shootings.

Remember the movie "Falling Down"???

I doubt it.

BTW, the shooter in this case also has a sexual assault case pending, so he was at least on the radar of law enforcement.

...But was still allowed to buy a gun and kill a coworker...

And what of 4th and 5th amendment protections or Doctor patient confidentiality?

This waiting period, if you've PO'd me to the point of murder, a baseball bat right now will work better than a 48 hour handgun.

Valid point, but I also might have a chance of out running a Louisville Slugger.

...Or a switchblade, which are also now legal in WI...

Not after you're asleep.

If you could 'transport' every gun on the planet into molecular oblivion in an instant, murder and violent crime would only take a gruesome and heinous technological step backward.

I'm not calling for guns to be banned/confiscated/etc.

That said, this specific case is a prime example of where we've all been so busy digging our heels in (as a nation) that we've lost sight of any common ground.

And it's just one in a ridiculously long list...

Now, teleportation? That's some that people on both sides of the aisle can get behind.
