I did not vote for Bush either time. But I respected him. I felt that when Barbara passed, he wasn't long for this world. When the love of your life leaves after 70+ years of marriage, what else is there to live for? IMHO, even though he was 94 - he died of a broken heart.

He is the only Republican candidate for President who ever got my vote. He was what I call a principled Republican. He believed in low taxes, and limited government, but that did NOT include denying food, shelter, and health care to the powerless. Mewling selfishness was not included in his philosophy. He did not believe that anything not endorsed by Republicans should be placed in the socialist or communist corner. BTW, Kcflyer I agree with your analysis. When Barbara Bush died, I also thought that he would not be far behind.

President George H.W. Bush was genuine and a true patriot dedicated to public service.
He was a man of highest character and integrity and his Love for family and country
will always be remembered. We will indeed miss him!

On another board, a poster started a thread and titled it "Bush the Gentleman". First sentence was about Bush being a "nice guy" and gentleman, the followed on with comments that maybe he was too much of a gentleman and would have won had he been more "Trumplike" and would have been tougher on trade and immigration.

Of course, back then, Republicans were the primary backers of NAFTA, so it would have been foolish of him to buck his party and immigration didn't seem to be a "front burner" issue. Bottom line - his complimentary post was actually complimenting Trump.
