As the two companies operate separately and prior to operational integration America West predicts that they will need to hire between 180-200 flight attendants to cover attrition in 2006. Rather than hiring off the street discussion focused on allowing current US Airways involuntary furloughed flight attendants to fill those vacancies that will occur prior to integration.

Hopefully the above statement happens the Involuntarily furloughed F/A's need a stable job until the merger is complete.

They would have a dual sen #. One for AW (of course at the bottom of the list) and retain thier USAir hire date. Upon the fences being removed or being called back to the USAir side (if sonner than fence removal), they would regain the USAir senority #. It's just a way to keep them off the street and for AW to hire good trained F/A's.

Are you kidding me? Double seniority? This merger already puts America West Flight Attendants in a total DISADVANTAGE and they get double seniority too? With this double seniority and date of hire integration, I would get bumped even more since we were cross utilized in the 80s! This will affect even some of our MEC Officers and negotiating team. This has to be a rumour and I hope our negotiating team will put up a strong and long fence because this is not good for all America West Flight Attendants.

Please check your afa updates and read how they are going to integrate our seniority. Thank you.

If I understood what they are working on, the furloughed F/As would be at the bottom and even after the merger they could NOT regain senority unless they moved out of the base and then back in. So, as long as they stayed in AW base they would keep AW senority.

Nothing is final but I think this is how they are trying to work it to protect AW bases for AW F/As and still give the opportunity for those who are furloughed to work vs. hiring off the street.

I know that seniority is important for everyone. I heard that we would be at the bottom of seniority if we went to HP. But after the merger would regain our original hire date. I havent read anything about having to transfer out of a fenced in base in order for our original date of hire to take place. Only time will tell

How many would come back?

US sent 200 call back letters out and from what I've heard less than 50 came back to work.

thats right they sent out 200 letters 42 people said they were interested and then 4 rescinded. so a total of 38 furloughed f/a's went back to mainline.

My guess is that most of our furloughed f/a have been busy doing other things over the last few years. I can't imagine many of them coming back to a west coast commute.
I don't see how it would affect the current AWA f/a if the furloughed f/a are hired as new hires. It would save the company money by bring on people who have already been trained on same a/c type. Once there are base openings on the east coast they could come back to old hire date, or stay as a new hire.

I sure hope so. We are currently in negotiations and I would definetely feel much better if we get our tentative agreement soon. There is a section there about opening "Satelite Bases" and our Better System Board. I'm not really sure how the Satelite Bases work, but if they open a Satelite base in california like L.A. maybe the senior commuters can work those.

The only one I know of is on the HUB.

It would not very up to date due to all of the people who have taken VFLR1,2 and those who have retired.

"Filling of America West vacancies:
Our position is that if America West wishes to hire more flight attendants, US Airways on furlough would be given first priority, however they would be at the bottom of the list below our last flight attendant hired and would stay there throughout the fence. After the fence they would stay at the bottom and would have to leave the base, then transfer back at a future date once we were operating as one airline."

Copied from the AW AFA site.

For more information please read the complete update.

This is not absurd - that many people wouldnt come back anyway so i really dont think you have anything to worry about - lets say they have 200 positions to fill and the fence is up two years - I can assure you it will balance out over the two years due to attrition and people just outing - it would be different if 2000 people could bump your seniority after the fence was let down but that isnt going to happen - i have to say US is positive about the merger and we aren't here to displace or bump anyone - I have been here 6 years and i would just like a job for once!! So think about it that way- do i want a job or do i want bumped a couple numbers and that is worst case - Don't forget we at US have given up ALOT including pay etc., including duty rigs - now that being said lets just work as a team and make this company work and be the best damn airline we can be TOGETHER!!!! It's all going to work out and we will all be fine - Take care in Phoenix!!!
