Fortune Magazine introduces one of the greatest entrepreneurs

Heck of a guy and one of a kind!
I doubt we will see much of that in the industry anymore, but one philosophy I use in my business is:

Your employees come first. And if you treat your employees right, guess what? Your customers come back, and that makes your shareholders happy. Start with employees and the rest follows from that."

Great advice!

Good for you xUT! Your employees are fortunate to have you as their employer
the same as we were to have had Herb.

This blog says it all...

Herb really knew what was up. He hired the best, and that's evident with Colleen Barrett. He was able to see that the Employees matter most of all, and not "the numbers". He made people want to come to work, and made sure there was an atmosphere of Teamwork, not "Us vs Them" between Management and Labor. Agents were able to color outside the lines and show personality while interacting one-on-one with Customers. Supervisors existed to provide tools for the Agents to do their jobs effectively. Herb was a man's man who didn't want Yes Men as Employees, and he strived to run as lean of an operation as humanly possible, all while keeping in mind that his workers needed to be taken care of. He was an advocate of getting his hands dirty if necessary, and not hiring layers of middle-management to do his bidding. He could also drink like a fish with the Employees without losing an ounce of anyone's respect.

Can you tell, I miss Herb at Southwest Airlines!
:) Sharon
