Flight Attendant Luggage

You must be from the WEST because you seem to miss Airportman's point. In the East many shaby dressed coworkers make up "sorry A**ed" excuses of WHY their uniform looks so bad or why their baggage is in such bad shape. Reps in the Crew Serv Ctrs ARE indeed very helpful and unless they suspect abuse of the system they are there to assist. Reference to bumping up to "A" stems from the fact that MANY coworkers that RARELY ever flew the LEAD position when there was a HELLUVA Lot more service (and work involved)have suddenly decided to TAKE (or more appropriately, bump) the more junior person out of there and use the catch phrase "I need the $$$".....well who doesn't. You can ask MANY FFlyers and they will tell you how bad the service is on some of THOSE flights....its slam/bam don't bother-ME-man I've got a newspaper to read or do my own thing. I have seen alot in 25years and some of the antics I see amazes EVEN ME!

It used to be that the "A"(lead) postion went fairly junior. That was because the more senior F/A's didn't want the responsibility or to do the high level of service that we, at East, used to have. Now that there really is no service to speak of, those same F/A's are grabbing the "A" position. This is there right, and I am ok with it. I just make sure that they do their part of the work. Some like to just do those 8 seats that we have in our 757's and then sit, or they will just clean those 8 seats and think they are done. Most of the time, it goes great though. Even at 17 years, I get bumped out of it all the time.

I still am curious why anyone would buy a bag/luggage. The company replaces it at no cost when its broken....so why would one spend money on another bag when the travel pro gets replaced free.

I JUST CANT SEE THE RATIONAL THERE

Does the store in Tempe have a website that is accessible by USAirways/East employees? The one on our "The Hub" website appears to be run by Cintas and has very few items that are of interest. No luggage at all to speak of, save a few small items of little consequence to flight crews.

If there is such a link, can someone post it?

Thanks!
Is this the link?

I have to agree with you on this. I'm on my second travelpro provided by the company. Why should I spend my own money when all I have to do is turn in the broken one and have a new one sent to me.

I bought the Luggage Works "Purdy Neat Things" bag in 1998 when the airline that I work for didn't provide luggage for us. The Luggage Works bag is the best out. It's bigger and has more space. The investment was worth it.
There is nothing like have to tote your luggage for six days before you can get it replaced and then when you get it replaced, and it breaks the same day.

Why all the fuss....The Company replaces the Travel Pro when its worn ive gone thru several......Never had a problem....might want to try just being nice to the crew service center gal/guy there a person too......cant blame them when you come in with attitude and leave with nothing.

I cant beleive the stupidity in buying a bag when one is provided FREE.....Then to #### or bump to A cause therre so broke and need the money.

Um, couple of points.

The baggage is _not_ provided "free". You paid for it.

I say, use the company provided baggage like GWBush uses his ignorance, and have the company replace the thing each and every year, if not more.

They wish to "provide" the luggage so they can "inspect" it at their leisure, it is a control thing. I say, make 'em pay for it, in spades.

Just sayin'

At HP we have always been required to purchase our luggage. The company has always dictated which items were acceptable.

In the early days, the company paid the cost of all uniforms, but the Flight Attendant (Fully Cross Utilized CSR back then) had to buy their shoes, belts, and luggage.

Ah check the bill.....the rollerboard was provided to you....And for a very good reason.....You paid for other bags depending if your male or female

THE COMPANY PAID FOR YOUR FIRST ONE, It was not included in the uniform "price"

Check your paystub.....the rollerboards used to cost 85.00 years ago I'm sure they are now over 100.00 and they are payroll deducted in one lump sum! As far as I know they will replace them, after extreme scrutiny, but it's at your expense.....correct me if I'm wrong! But some of these stories that F/A's have about broken suitcases after dealing with the "luggage nazi's" are pretty hilarious! In the East....most F/A's resort to just going to WalMart, K-Mart, and places like TJ Maxx and getting cheap look a likes rather than dealing with the company....it's just cheaper and easier! B)

Ok ill settle this as a former supervisor the roller board was company issued......

and as a f/a in the east very few resort to walmart....
Most are just afraid to go in to see the staff usually because there not in compliance....or are trying to pull something over on someone.

Sorry, meant to say yes the first is company issued, after that no it's not. I can't believe you haven't seen all the knock off rollerboards out there? They are just cheaper to buy than havethe company replace!

The company will Replace the travel pro Roller board Free of charge If it need it....I personally have gone through 4 of them

I'm glad you said that...cleared up another "urban legend" as it were in F/A land. How bad a shape does the suitcase have to be in to be replaced?
