Favorite Southwest Paint Scheme?

I like the original desert gold and red. Our planes look like they are painted purple now - especially when they're dirty

OK, I'll opine:

The very early "Texas Triangle" days, when the three/four aircraft in the fleet had more of a slight greenish tinge to the tan top color, and the titles read "SOUTHWEST (rear fuselage) AIRLINES (tail) on the port side and the reverse order on the starboard...or do I have my 'port' and 'starboard' mixed up?

the tan with the slight greenish tinge was known as "desert gold".I liked lt better when it changed to "just" gold(with red and orange)

When WN short-term leased those 727s from PeoplExpress in the early to mid '80s, they also had the greenish "Desert Gold" tinge on them, even though the rest of the fleet had long since switched to the non-greenish tint "gold" (actually tan) color.
I'd wager that, being thrifty, WN had some of the old paint left over and decided not to waste the new paint on planes that they knew they would only be operating for a few years!
