FA hiring at Continental

Hi, I'm a junior AA fa who may be furloughed this summer. I hear through the FA grapevine that Continental is hiring. Before I throw it all overboard and start all over again, can someone please shed light on a cautionary piece of advice I got from a United fa.

She said that the fa corps is not fully merged and once that happens, the new hires will be furloughed. It will be depressing to say the least to go through the interview, assume I get hired, go through CAL training, and then be out on the streets yet again. She said that there is in fact an overage of fas at United. Please help. I'm one of the 2,300 AA fas that will be furloughed if the bankruptcy term sheet is approved by the Court.

Thanks.

As you know, forecasting the future in this industry is nearly impossible. As far as I know, the UA/CO pilots were able to work out an agreement that allowed furloughed UA pilots to accept jobs at CO while keeping their furloughed status at UA but the two FA groups weren't able to work that out for some reason (it sounds like a win-win to me). Since CO needed pilots and FA's, it is having to hire FA's because there's no mechanism for furloughed UA FA's to take a job at CO yet keep their place on UA's seniority list. What will happen in the future to anyone hired as a FA at CO is anybodies guess.

Now, I never have and don't work for UA or CO but that is my understanding of the situation.

Thats pretty much the way I see it too....... I suppose working is better than not working? There is always the possibility that once a single contract is offered some F/A's may retire or even take an early out? Only time will tell......
