Can anyone tell us furloughed fas if the supposed hiring of new fas at the end of the year is actually due to attrition or a copycat move vis a vis Northwest? In other words, I don't want to be a scab, and am not sure what is really happening on your property. Being a furloughed FA, I'm anxious to get back into mainline flying, but not at the expense of fellow fas on the line. Are you guys still in the CHAOS mode? I asked a friend at UAL and his response was a vague, "I'm not sure what we are doing!"

czerny,

I can't speak for all of the f/a's but as a pilot I have not heard anything about CHAOS on the line. Most of the f/a's I talk with, just want to get on with their lives and not beat the dead horse. The moral is pretty good for the most part. The nice thing about being in BK is you can make some great jokes at your own expense. Anyway, I have not heard anything about them calling you in to SCAB as you guys are protected under the same contract so you would be able to walk if you wanted.

The thing I think I hear the most from F/A's is that there is a huge disconnect between AFA and the rank and file F/a's. The press releases and propaganda from AFA don't truly represent what the line folks are thinking. That is my take anyway.

If you want to come back then come on and we welcome you!

United has filed (or is filing shortly) their POR to exit and has a locked in contract with the AFA. Last I heard, they aren't contesting the contract . . . so I would imagine this is on the up and up, and not a scab action.

OK, this is my first post, but I know somebody working on this project, so can type with confidence!

It is for-real new hiring and primarily based on attrition. As they have called back F/As from voluntary furlough, reports are that fewer and fewer are coming back with every recall. The last group is due back October 31st, and they are senior. Plus the regular line F/A attrition has been high. The future prospects (pension. pay raises) are no longer what they were and the job (80-100 hours a month) is also not the same. Still, there are folks who love the job despite the long hours and lower pay, and lots of people out there interested in being a F/A.

Look for recruiting to begin in the November time frame, for classes starting in January.
