EMB-190order in the works?

Does anyone have inside info on the 190 order being worked on that mgmt is hinting at?

The E170 has more cancellations than any plane I've ever seen --makes the F-100 look like a fine-tuned Swiss watch...scary man. I wish the company would look elsewhere for a more reliable aircraft.

Try again.....show the numbers in relation to other fleet types. The 170 is out performing other mainline fleet types most days. I can't answer for the contract 170 operations, but while the MDA 170's had some problems during their launch, they run like clockwork now.

PS. If the company truely wanted 190's ASAP, they could have them next spring. My guess is this is just another "smoke and mirrors" distraction.

My guess is that it has finally started to sink in with the MDA group that they have been abandon by both their union, and new managment. The only thing an MDA crew member has to look forward to, is flying the metal for revenue until the the outsourced labor can train enough pilots to fly the 170's themselves, and then off to the cheese line. So are ya shocked when the 170 fleet gets a little sluggish?? My guess is, it will get a lot worse before it gets better, no matter the temperature.

EYEINTHESKY, the company has looked elsewhere. Those planes are gone, outsourced, and with them some former mainline stations. You ask, you shall recieve. More than 500 USAirways employees will once AGAIN be displaced when those aircraft go elsewhere.

Headwinds at Embraer

Investors in Brazilian regional jet specialist and Motley Fool Stock Advisor recommendation Embraer (NYSE: ERJ) may want to tighten their seatbelts today. Writing here in the pre-market hours, I have no idea how the stock will react to today's news, but a slight miss on both the top and bottom lines could make for a little patch of turbulence.

The quarter wasn't all that bad. Sales rose more than 13% (vs. an expectation of 15%), and the company delivered 41 jets in the quarter. Margins were a bit soft, though. Gross margin actually fell more than five percentage points from last year's level, partly because of the appreciation of Brazilian currency (the real) and manufacturing inefficiencies in the newer 175 and 190 lines. Remember, although the company's sales are denominated in dollars, its costs are predominantly in reais.

Ask and you shall receive....

First the disclaimers:

* For Sept only - the latest month available from BTS

* In the "on-time" dataset the aircraft model isn't included and the tail number isn't shown for cancelled flights, so I've assumed that all flights numbered 1600 thru 1899 are Emb-170's (all the flights that operated in that flight number range were Emb-170's).

* The reason for the cancellation isn't included (there's a field for it but they're all "null" entries).

* The dataset only includes domestic flights. Therefore it includes most of the Emb-170 flights but other fleet types (especially the A330 & B767) aren't as inclusive though the B737 may be more inclusive (we don't do many international flights on that either).

Now the results...

Emb-170 cancellation rate: 2.7908% of scheduled flights

Combined Boeing/Airbus cancellation rate: 1.3047% of scheduled flights

So at least for Sept, at least for domestic flights, and including all reasons, the Emb-170 had over twice the cancellation rate of the Boeing/Airbus.

Maybe if we get these fictional 190's we can fly them to LHR when the open skies agreement happens. LOL.....oh brother. This company has NOT changed. I'm trying to be positive, REALLY I am. 😉
