For nearly five decades, the Vermont Chamber of Commerce has annually awarded an individual who has gone above and beyond his or her daily requirements to better the state of Vermont through self-sacrifice, service and volunteerism. In the crowded field of awards given to Vermont community members, the Vermont Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year Award is one of the most prestigious. This year, the Vermont Chamber of Commerce proudly presents the Citizen of the Year Award to Mr. Edwin Colodny of Burlington.

Mr. Colodny is a native Vermonter who spent his early years in Burlington where his family owned a grocery store. Much of Colodny’s career was embedded in the airline industry. In 1975, after working his way up in the ranks, he was named President and CEO of US Airways. Under his leadership, the company was reshaped into a major national carrier.

Mr. Colodny was a very nice man, He came up to visit after recieving the Tony Janus award in Tampa. We gave him a ride back up north.

However in my opinion he and his replacements till Wolf were so far out of their league in this deregulated inviroment, it has cost each and every employee here a career, and for some their family and even life....

To not acknowledge the lack of oversite of these people who are now honored is akin to giving a medal to the captain of the Titanic.....

They should be ashamed, even more so for the Board of Directors....They couldnt "Direct" a jr high play.....

Sad.......

Colodny had no clue on how to run a major airline, the 767s he canceled and then reorder showed that, mirror image showed that.

And remember the Colodny guarantee, dont vote the union in and he will take care of you and gave everyone a quarter to call him.

He might have been good at running a small airline but had no clue on how to run a major airline.

Wasn't really the intent of the thread to replay "what went wrong with PSA merger/PI merger/ with USAir(ways) since the early '90's. After his retirement from the airline, Mr C has played a leading role in turning around some troubled institutions in VT. That is what his award is for.

And besides Cabot Cheese and B&J ice cream, some great beer is made in Vermont!
Hopefully that will served at the bash as well.

Happy to that this thread has been saved from rehashing mergers and is now about a much better subject indeed.
Did you know that one of VT's fine breweries is also very eco-friendly?

Helping to keep things green while enjoying a fine beer. Now there is something to raise a glass too!

This is the USAirways forum. Why would you expect any different posting about Colodny than regarding his relationship with USAirways? This is not the "Vermont" forum. If you wanted to avoid this type of post, it should have been placed on the "Water Cooler" forum.
