According to last week's AW&ST, EADS (Airbus) is settingup a network of maintenance, repair and overhaul shops which will be technically certified and supported by Airbus. This looks just like what U and probably many other airlines are looking for; reliable maintnenace without the investment, the liability, or the hassle.

In-house heavy is looking like an endangered species.

Their new "network" sounds as if it will be international with Airbus providing technical assistance but not owning any of the shops.

GE tried to get 'U' to be one of their factory authorized repair shops for a few years back. 'U" said no. Gee, go figure.
