It's been a few days since Dick Metcalf was fired from Guns and Ammo for his op-ed piece. Not a peep from the freedom of speech folks. A&E suspends someone for saying things that A&E does not believe in and you would have thought the world was coming to an end. Guns and ammo cans a writer for stating his opinion and ...... crickets.

Guess maybe Dick Metcalf didn't realize who his audience was and their beliefs and exactly who signed his paycheck! Phil Robertson knew who his audience was and is!
 
Maybe Dick would have had more support if he wrote columns for a Liberal Gun magazine!

The magazine publisbed his articke then canned him because of the backlash. Philip said stuff, A&E suspended him and brought him back because of the backlash. Both individuals were sanctioned for their speech. One ended up be rewarded, thr other punished. Both out comes were correct in terms of freedom to run ones company the way one sees fit. The reaction was completely opposit.

Had Phil Robertson stated he was a charter member of PETA and opposed to duck hunting, then perhaps you'd have a parallel situation.

What's the same is that both companies realized they were facing significant monetary losses.

A&E originally caved into a very vocal minority, and wound up alienating the majority of the show's fans & possibly the major advertisers. The reason they were facing monetary losses was because of the action *they* took, not because of the opinion stated.

G&A, on the other hand, caved into the majority of their subscriber base and their advertisers, all of whom were alienated by the opinion stated.


If you can't see that difference, too bad for you.
