D'Souza never planned to fight the charges. I'd be surprised if he serves any time aside from probation, because he'd be jailed heading into the midterms and that just elevates his popularity with the right even more.

Another reason why I doubt the Left won't push too hard to see him jailed is that it may start an effort to overturn the last limit standing, which is the cap towards how much an individual can give to a single candidate. SCOTUS just overturned the cap on how much individuals could donate in general.

A major Democratic donor pleaded guilty on Monday to funneling millions of dollars in illegal campaign donations to federal and local politicians, including an unnamed 2008 presidential candidate believed to be Hillary Clinton.
 
According to prosecutors, Thompson funded a $600,000 shadow campaign “in coordination with and in support for a federal candidate for president of the United States.”
 
Thompson is facing up to six months in prison under his plea deal.
