Telling people what they want to hear is always popular. Getting elected and getting it done is a different issue.

Indeed he has. Now, even right wing pundits believe he was out of line at the prayer breakfast, but I know "the base" loved it. Don't know if you caught the speech...but at the 20 minute mark he was discussing the "tithing" tax. And very quickly said that one thing that will shoot down his chances in politics..."Of course you've got to get rid of the loopholes". While he is correct, there are realtors and mortgage bankers all over this country who would fight tooth and nail to preserve the mortgage interest deduction loophole. There are corporations who would spend much more than 10% of their profits to fight writing off capital investments or depreciations.Well we haven't got quite that far yet. I am delighted that Dr Carson has joined the debate.

But I'll give it to you, the way he put it "If you make ten billion, you put in ten billion, if you make ten dollars, you put in a dollar". And damned if that doesn't sound sensible as hell. Now try to get that passed. You might be surprised at how quickly republicans and democrats will find themselves "reaching across the aisle" to address that.
One more time , for the mentally impaired !
Would I, supporting Dr. Carson, who is black vs. myself, not supporting BaRack, who is black and white, be considered a racist towards people who are balck and white ?
I personally , on these forums have been called a racist, because I do not support BaRack or his policies.
If I'm a racist, how could I support Dr. Carson or someone like Herman Cain?
So, in closing , I guess I'm racist only against people who are half black-half white !
Got it?
The trouble isn't with the message, but the forum. Even this lefty liberal was critical of the forum. And you proved Cal Thomas' point with thisExercising ones freedom of speech has no lines drawn in the sand. If you think everyone should bow down and kiss Obama's butt, maybe you have a problem. Trouble is, MSM, WH press corps and the PC crew never let Obama have a hard moment in the reality of the political arena. Why shouldn't the president be required to answer real, direct non scripted questions? The esteemed Doctor was perfectly within bounds, if it were Nancy Pelosi lambasting Bush, nary an eye would have blinked.
Not to worry, I already heard he had sex with the same women Howard Cain did.

That's because Peolosi did NOT make the prayer breakfast a political event. If you want to play "what if"... if a renowned brain surgeon would have spoken up at a Bush prayer breakfast on the atrocities of war against a country that did nothing to us, I have a funny feeling that the power would have gone out, cutting the mic and lights. But that's just me.
Wiki:
Rev. Jim Wallis, founder and president of the Christian social change group Sojourners and a regular attendee of the National Prayer Breakfast, said of the event "it's sort of a time to — where people want to acknowledge the importance of prayer and faith. And that can be kind of a civil religion, civic faith kind of common denominator thing. Or it can be much too sectarian where some people feel left out of it. I remember my favorite ones are when Bono spoke at the prayer breakfast and talked about every faith tradition calls us to stand with those who are left out, left behind. I remember Senator Mark Hatfield spoke years ago when I was in seminary and he called the war in Vietnam a national sin and shame in front of Richard Nixon and Henry Kissinger. I saw their faces and they weren't happy with that. So when it can raise up issues that we ought to be accountable to, whether we are religious or not, I think that's when it's probably at its best."[sup][12][/sup]
In 2010, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington asked President Barack Obama and Congressional leaders to refrain from attending the National Prayer Breakfast. Executive Director Melanie Sloan criticized the organizing group, The Fellowship, for being what she described as intolerant and secretive.[sup][13][/sup]
You know dell, many religious groups view war as a moral issue, not a political issue. For example, the Catholic church considered the Iraq war to be an "unjust war". It didn't affect their politics because they still support the republican candidates. But war is a moral issue, except for it's funding.
Health care, taxes and spending are more political. Nice try though.
OK...'southwind. You asked, so now I'll answer.
Though I can't Prove it, my gut feeling Is, that you support/TOLERATE guys like Uncle Herman, Alan West and Dr. Carson because they are 'Means-to-an-End'.
In other words, they are VERY convenient TOOLS to USE against the B O SS !
Being able to feed, care for and provide are moral issues and those three you list suck the life out of a families pocketbook......care to give it another shot?
Taxes and insurance are not nearly as moral as war. Nice try though. I belive the tax part was already addressed in the bible and you can't improve on the word of God, can you...."give unto Ceasar what is Ceasars".
Taken in the greater context the verse also implies that rendering unto God what is Gods is also required. Some would argue that Ceasar's portion would not be higher than God's share.
So if we follow that logic when can I expect a check?
Just pointing out that taxes isn't a moral issue. That's the thing. The base loves the line and loves him for politicizing a prayer breakfast. What does the deficit have to do with Jesus or God? What does Obamacare have to do with either? The first part of the mans speech was "prayer breakfast worthy"...but after that - a bit out of line. I mean, I used to be a lector at my former church (Catholic). Would I have been out of line to finish up the first reading and then launch into a dissertation about how the use of contraceptives can help reduce the number of abortions?
