does awa's ceo, doug parker, make himself available to his employees via e-mail? our previous despot at u, "dave", prided himself on such accessibility to employees.
i really don't have any professional and/or business related questions for the man; i just read an article summarizing his bio and realized we both earned our graduate degrees from the same institution...thought he might like to hear from a lame, voluntary furloughed u f/a who shares a piece of history, albeit academic history, with him...
anyway, many thanks! looking forward, hopefully, to a brighter future with all of you!

Doug makes himself available as much as he can. He does do e-mail when he can. He also does quarterly Town Halls in multiple locations. Unlike many CEO's, he is not afraid to make himself seen to the front line employees. Although it hasn't happened to me, many flight crews report that when he is on flights he makes a point of talking to the crews and solicits comments.

I personally like him, especially when compared to the likes of Bill Franke, who had no people skills whatsoever.

Personally, I'm very excited with the prospect of working for Doug Parker. It will be the first time in over 18 years that I will get to work for a CEO who has the skills and the intent to run a successful airline. (The last time that happened for me was Piedmont CEO Bill Howard.)

Can you post Doug Parker's email address? Or send it via private email if posting it is a rule violation here?

I'm a U employee.

I met the man the other day, and I have to tell you he left me with a good feeling.
He not only introduced himself as Doug, shook my hand, but took the time to introduce himself to other employees working the gate and told them what a good job they were doing. (It was a particularly rough day at the airport that day).

So if first impressions are any indication; he's got my support.

Now as for what the future brings, no one knows.

I think Doug Parker is an awsome person and a great CEO. I have put complete confidence in him and his team. They all want to be called by their first names and Doug, Joe, and Susan are the 3 greats I've met personally. I will tell him when I see him how much you appreciated him saying hello at the gates. I don't think, though I should give out his email. Just ask him or anyone in person and they'll be happy to give it to you. It's wonderful to be working here and am excited that all of my former friends and employees at U will be enjoying their work at HP also.

Beware of familiarity. At USAirways we had "Just Call Me Dave" and look what that led to.

Amen, Hope. Now there was a leader and a gentleman....

Bill Howard may have been a gentleman but he was no leader. He is the reason Peidmont not buy Western and was subsequently bought by USAir.

traderjake,

Sorry for the confusion - I was talking about the man that Hope referenced:

"Maybe the MAN before BOSS HOG ! ! !"

That indeed was a fine southern gentleman, who truly appreciated what the employees meant to the operation of a top-notch airline, Mr. Tom Davis. He led by example. How many employees give their President a retirement gift on the scale that those at Piedmont did? We knew, that even though he could afford what we gave him, he wouldn't have bought it for himself. Unbelievable what has happened since he retired........ Fond memories of Mr. Davis... what others could learn by following his example..

The one thing I will always remember about Mr. Davis, is that he always remembered your name as did most Piedmont Higher ups. Recently, Ed Jones (Regional Director) flew into our station. When he deplaned with his wife, I was in the Jetway along with a CSS, Mr Jones came off and introduced his wife to Both the CSS and myself by our first names. After 15 years, he still remembered his front line employees names. Very Impressive ! ! !

Okay, here's what happened on Wednesday. I got to work and things were normal. Doug was to be there to give us a town hall meeting. He came in and with a clicker in his own hand conducted the meeting---himself-===with no one introducing him. He wore kaki slacks, nice shoes, and an open colar blue shirt. Just a regular guy. Kinda made us all feel comfortable. Our new hire class sang him a crazy little song about HP. I think he was truly speechless. Anyway, he went on to explain about the merge, the why and the how. In every day language that even the most basic employee could understand. No, he did not talk down to us. Just told us the facts. Yes, we will be flying to Hawaii. Big applause. He then went on to explain why the merge would work and why the ---imagine my suprise that he actually knew why the PSA, PI, AL merge did not work. Wow he even admitted that U actually handed WN the west coast.
I won't go into detail, but I will say that every time that man opens his mouth every one of us gets inspired. He's real, he's honest, and he's a good man.
He was drinking a diet pepsi out of a can and even carried it to the garbage himself. Don't know how many of you saw Wolf's meetings, but this was totally different. One person spoke with a very heavy european accent and Doug listened intently and answered his every question.
Don't know about the rest of you but if you get a chance to meet him, say Hi and just listen for awhile. You too will be a believer and this airline will truly be the best in the world.
