KCI Airport Makes National Television

KANSAS CITY, Mo., February 16, 2007 – Sporting work pants, safety gear and anti-bacterial soap, quintessential apprentice and host Mike Rowe jetted into Kansas City International Airport to film for Discovery Channel’s popular show, Dirty Jobs. The show profiles hard working Americans who have difficult and, sometimes, unusual occupations. Mike becomes immersed in dirt, grime and filth as he explores the stories of ordinary heroes who perform vital occupational tasks so the rest of us don’t have to.
The whole dirty scene started months ago when Kansas City Aviation Department Field Maintenance employee Kevin Miles visited the Dirty Jobs fan web site and submitted his nomination of just one of his dirty jobs, cleaning out an airport paint truck. The Discovery Channel will air the first of two KCI segments at 8pm CST on Tuesday, February 20.
Mike and his crew visited KCI Airport in mid December and spent half the day handling baggage with Southwest Airlines and the other half with the Kansas City Aviation Department. In between the crew was treated to some Kansas City barbecue. While with the KCAD, Mike assisted in cleaning the ash out of an incinerator and scrubbing old paint out of the holding tank of a paint truck. By the end of the day, Mike and his crew were covered in a mixture of ash, paint and barbecue sauce, but had enough content for two segments, the first of which will air Tuesday with the second one airling later in the season. The Kansas City Airport System is an Enterprise Fund Department of the City of Kansas City, Missouri, and is supported wholly by airport user charges. No general tax fund revenues are used for the administration, promotion, operation, or maintenance of the airports in the system.

....of course the flight attendant thing would never "fly" with any company ... since they want to make like the planes are really "beautiful" and "clean".......
