CWA local elections for US Airways passenger service workers

Avoiding the questions now are we? LOL is not the response we all were seeking from you TEA. You counted the ballots.....so you should have some inside information for us. Come on, we are dying to know the answers hon. From all the posts you have on here, you know ALL.
I guess since you have nothing to say AIRPORTWORKER08 must have hit a nerve . LOL LOL LOL You are guilty of using members money for your own advantage right? You got an expense paid trip from our dues to do this job so you would stop complaining to the local leadership right? They are probably sick of you too.
Since you are so intimate with local 1171 and it's leadership, tell me, did they pay for folks to fly in to be nominated? Maybe Roger got brought in from Lga and they put him up in a hotel room on our dime too.

Hi everyone! I am new to this site and needed some info.
I work in NY at an airport for US Airways and was wondering about the upcoming CWA elections for our district. Does anyone know our current President, John Hanson? Has he ever had a local membership meeting? Has the local moved from Syracuse NY to Boston, MA? Can it be moved again if someone from another state runs for local President? We have someone in our work location that would make a great President. We need someone that is active and not retired in my opinion. Any info on when we can nominate someone and how it is done? I understand that this year is election year and we elect every 3 years.

In my airport, we just voted overwhelmingly to move TO John Hanson's local. Use that as your guideline.

no not avoiding anything...took time to try to have a life....I counted ballots for the move from one local to another....I do not know where you have gotten this info that I flew somewhere to count ballots...hhmmmm...got in my car and drove to my old district office to count...guess we are talking about 2 different votes...which is not the topic of this thread. By the way, you sound very bitter....what gives? Maybe you should take your own advice and either try to get a life or vent your own anger towards someone whom gives a crap. I am not guilty of using any dues money-hell, I dont even know where it goes anymore after its pulled outta my miniscule paycheck...it certainly didnt get to my local that is almost bankrupt did it? Must be lining someones pocket yet again...hmm wonder who....Dont know whom roger is nor do I care. My issue is about Velveteen et all whom seem to think THEY run CWA. She supposedly maintains the CWA website and yet there is still nada on the pay arbitration from earlier this month....once again....

WOW, WHAT A JOKE YOU ARE. YOU NEED TO GET A LIFE, ALL YOU DO IS POST ON THIS PATHETIC WEB SITE. DID YOU NOTICE THAT YOU AND ABOUT 10 OTHERS ARE THE ONLY ONES THAT POST ON HERE daily about our Union? HOW SAD.

hmmm... can look at this 2 different ways...I choose that at least 10 people care about the state of the our "union"...your bashing of me does nada but it is quite entertaining. Thanks!!! I can only ass sume that since you are now posting on this "pathetic site" that you are now desiring to become one of us "10"...?

Not to change the subject but....Does anyone have any information on Arbitrator James Conway? He's the guy who arbitrated the pay grievance and sided with the company. No, this information has not yet been posted on the CWA website. Why? Ask Velvet.

One has to wonder what if any due dilegence was conducted by Velvet/CWA? Corret me if I'm wrong but don't BOTh parties have to agree to the arbitrator chosen?

Not necessarily. Arbitration, in my opinion, is a scam and for the most part is paid for by the company rather than the union. Had another arbitrator been chosen, the end results would be the same. For the most part, the only times I've seen arbitrators side with workers is when they are pilots, law enforcement, fire fighters, etc. The rest of us are sent to Bend Over, Indianus!

If people think that Velvet has done them wrong, why don't you bring her up on charges and have her removed as a union representative? Of course you will need solid proof and not just here say! Even if she is a sell-out, proving it is hard to do.

I don't know about your union, but in my world the arbitration firm is hired by the company. They pay for it and I can't see arbitrators siding with the workers-because they never have in my history. We only seem to delay the inevitable. Maybe that doesn't apply in your case, but I bet whoever the arbitrator, he wouldn't bite the hand that feeds him, imo!

If you reread my post, instead of acting like a hothead, you would have seen my comment about "nominations" not votes. Is it true that you had to fly to Boston just to be nominated to run for a position and bring someone to nominate you? CAN YOU ANSWER THAT QUESTION PLEASE?

Another issue is that everytime I mention 1171 and the local leaders I keep getting comments about someone I have no knowledge of. Who in the world is Velvet?????? Is she a member of this local? Who is my staff rep here in district 1? I need to contact them asap about the violations of my LMRDA rights. How is it democratically fair that someone from another state, get off work, fly to Boston, pay for a hotel room to be there for an evening meeting to be nominated in order to run for office. Yet the local leaders in Boston can already be off the clock on union business and be close to home so as not to incur hotel and meal costs just to be able to run for a position in their local. WHY HAS THE LOCAL NOT POSTED THE INFORMATION ON THE WEB SITE WE PAY FOR WITH OUR DUES MONEY???? DID YOU GET FLOWN TO BOSTON FROM DISTRICT 4 ON OUR DUES MONEY TO COUNT THE VOTES? DID THEY PUT YOU IN A HOTEL ROOM AND PAY YOUR MEALS TOO?????? WOW, WHAT A JOKE YOU ARE. YOU NEED TO GET A LIFE, ALL YOU DO IS POST ON THIS PATHETIC WEB SITE. DID YOU NOTICE THAT YOU AND ABOUT 10 OTHERS ARE THE ONLY ONES THAT POST ON HERE daily about our Union? HOW SAD.

He's probably a union representative since he was there during the counting of the votes. So yes he did get a paid vacation for free. Obviously a Hanson clone  Who is Velvet? Hell if I know, but check this out.

Just a bit of advice ap08, when you name names drones arrive

AW08....just curious...
Have you talked with your local station reps? If you are getting no information, it would seem to me that the logical first step would be on the local level. They should have no issue contacting the 1171 President.

Just curious what the bylaws for your local state. Are you allowed to nominate by mail or not or is it not mentioned how to do it? Ours states a date to send out letters and a date to have them returned and opened at the meeting. I went to the po box with the election chairman and escorted him with all the (junk) mail we got. No nominations in the mail, but it was an option. What does yours state?

Thanks for the info PineyBob. My understanding is that Velvet picks outs the arbitrators. That says it all.......

I have a question. Someone please answer me. I live on the West coast and am retired from the East Coast. Who is my union?? I keep getting stuff from teamsters. Have the unions truely merged or are they still 2 separate unions. I might need to speak with someone about my retirement pay. Thanks

There's no retirement available to those that work for US Airways :D .... this company dump that crap in BK court ..... Check with Uncle Sam over at the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC) www.pbgc.gov or Fidelity Mutual, if they didn't loose everything you contributed to wall street boys ;) .
