I was in a CTO in New York the other day, the place was empty. I needed to get a stand-by ticket for my son. I was talking to the agent that was ticketing me and she said that she mostly reads because most people use the internet. Mostly she said she does NRSA and reissues passenger tickets. Can you image the amount of $$$$ we are throwing out the window. I hate for anyone to lose their jobs but I think that money can be better spent.

I'm not sure about the CTO in NYC, but not all are that empty.

Definately worth a look though. It's sad that some may lose jobs, but unfortunately it's simply evolution.

Appears Continental has them in 14 states plus DC:

But United does not have any and Northwest is closing all of theirs.

I don't think Jet Blue or Southwest have any ticket offices either.

As more and more go ticketless, there will be less and less of a need for the CTOs. I am sorry to see anyone else lose their jobs, but maybe these agents could just transfer to the nearest airport. We can't be talking about anything more than 150 employees systemwide. Just with the money saved on rent, that should help a little. It can't be cheap to rent out anything in NYC. Just my thoughts.....

There were like thirtysomething in the past?
There are indeed 13 left. In 2000, there were 66 of them.

I've used the PHL CTO a half-dozen times, only when I want to do something complicated. I've seen the agents answering phones, but have never seen another customer inside.

Before the TPA CTO closed, there were 2 agents there. One FT (and in charge) and one part time in the middle of the day to cover lunch. I would venture a guess that most of the CTOs left have fewer than 5 agents average. I was curious if the Star Alliance airlines have a joint CTO? If not, maybe this is something that would be beneficial to all of the carriers. I know that in London we used to "share" an office with BA at one time.
