I visited the club in LGA this morning on my way to RIC, arriving around 6:25, staying about an hour. I noticed that there was not one single newspaper in the club--no Crains, no Times, no USA Today, no paper whatsoever.

In light of other ill-advised cuts, I am wondering if they cancelled their subscriptions and will no longer offer papers or if this was just a fluke with a late delivery---my money is not on late delivery.

By this time of day, there are usually a ton of papers available for the customers...

Just wonderin' if our friend Penny Wise (Pound Foolish) is back again 🙂

My best to you all......

The Port Authority of NY and NJ will not permit the current vendor to deliver newspapers to either the US Airways or Delta Shuttle. I'm not sure if this applies to the Clubs, but could be the case. I will check on this issue tomorrow with the Station Manager.

In every organization, there will always be one person who knows what's going on. This person must be fired.
  hehe

Last week, there were plenty of papers, and the week before that...and the week before that..... and the RCC had plenty as well last week...I doubt the Port Authority is involved.

I would have to agree with you about the PANYNJ, Art. They always appear to have far too many other important things to deal with, like security, bridges, tunnels, buses, trains, boats, ports, airports, aircraft, buildings, cargo etc.

Maybe it's only "temporary" during a change of vendors - like the FC meals on the transcons.....

For several weeks there have been no newspapers for the common folk using the Shuttle. Maybe it s good enough for everybody.

Jim,
You don't really believe that hogwash, do you?

What change of vendors? Transatlantic, Carribbean and mid-con meal service has not changed. This was clearly cost-cutting, plain and simple.

I believe there is no short-term intention to return to full service meals on transcon flights. Perhaps one of our FFOCUS members could get the lowdown on this from the director of Dining and Cabin Services as well as from the VP of Marketing.

I believe have a feeling that whoever first said this was a change in vendors was lying to the masses.

To be truthful guys the Capt. is right. I was told last week and again today that the vendor must be changed as the vender is now banned from the property from the Port Auth., not sure what happened but it has been something going on between the 2 for weeks. I work in LGA and have questioned this when I first noticed things were changing. It got worse with the 2 since. I originally was told something to do with the Port fees. Not sure though.

As a cost cutting measure newspapers are no longer put out at the Shuttle.

Or maybe simple newspaper Vendors whom dont make the cut security - wise !

Art, as you know the vendor has not paid the Port Authority their taxes and the Port removed their access to the airport, for all operators, not just US Airways. The company is working with the Port to find a replacement vendor and is hopeful to have this resolved this week.

I did learn this morning that it was in fact the Port Authority who removed access from Inflight Magazines for non payment. I got it from the club concierge this morning (yes I was there 2 days in a row).

This morning there were a handful of newspapers out. I can understand pulling them from the shuttle, but the clubs is a stretch...perhaps they should consider buying papers from Hudson which is right next door to the club....

Of course that would make sense 🙂

Thanks all for checking into it.

I didn't notice---did they pull all the free magazines from the racks for Shuttle customers too????

My best to you all...

No. Both left and right wing propoganda is still available along with golf and swimming pool magazines.
