I just heard for what it's worth that CO is leaving ISP....

It's too bad no one cares to stand up to WN.

Oh well......I had been hoping for ISP-EWR like they used to do--like UA does today LAX-SNA--it's always full!!!!!

My best to you all....

If CO only flew CLE-ISP, I wonder if they ever made money? With only a CLE feed, it could be tough to be in the black all the time. Even SWA eliminated a city this year, IAH. Just my thoughts..........

Maybe it was an "under-the-table" deal? SWA stopped competing at CO's hub at IAH, CO stopped competing at WN's growing city at ISP?

Have you seen the new terminal facilities SWA built at ISP? Awesome! Given what the other carriers were left with operating from it is no wonder that SWA gathers the majority of traffic from ISP. Oh, and consistently good service and deals on air fares doesn't hurt, either!
🙂

I never have and never will fly Southwest, and I am not the only VERY frequent flyer who feels that way.

ISP is RIPE for a brazen competitor--perhaps the NEW US Airways with full service and rational fares.

I applaud your passion, Art. That's the beauty of the free market. I'll bet you proabaly eat in restarurants that I wouldn't eat in (no drive thru window 😀 ) -- and I am a VERY frequent eater!

A worthy competitor at ISP -- brazen or not -- would be welcome for everyone. SWA would probably like it, too, because the more folks that fly out of ISP, the more people can help pay the fixed costs.

Don't get Art started on SWA. He is extremely, extremely passionate in his hate and disgust for that airline. When I posted on this earlier, I forgot his disdain for that airline. I am sorry I even mentioned their name. I apologize.

Thanks for the warning. I'll handle whatever Art wants to dish out toward SWA. Southwest became what it is today because of those who passionately hated to see it succeed. Art's banter is just the chorus of a well-worn song.

Since this is a Continental forum, however, my apologies to the CO members for this digression.

CO also had ISP-BOS and ISP-ALB through Commutair. I wonder if THEY are staying.

ISP-BOS ended some months ago, and US actually picked up the route once again, serving it with a mix of Saab 340 and B1900 aircraft.

I would guess ISP-ALB will end as well, and the CO name will be gone from ISP for good.

That would leave ISP with only US (Piedmont), DL (Comair), and WN. Through the years, we have had TW, UA, NK, FL, AA, AE, Business Express, etc. Sad really.

CO and US are currently sharing the ISP-BOS market with 3x weekday service...

AA was the one that dropped ISP-BOS, not CO.

You guys are overreacting. I have nothing personally against Southwest, they are just not for me. I have nothing against those who choose to fly them, it's just that they don't work for me or many of the frequent business travelers I know. So lighten up already.....

My issue is with the other airlines who turn and run from ISP rather than trying to make a go of it there--it is a relatively big market.

I wish someone would run a commuter flight to LGA JFK or EWR like CO used to do--that would really be good. UA has it from LAX to SNA and they're ALWAYS full....

I would never accuse WN and CO of colluding, but each airline used to run 4 dailies CLE-STL and CLE-BNA. Now WN has cut STL to 2 flights and CO has cut BNA to 2 flights.

Things that make you go hmmmmm....

Hi, Art!

Consider me "lightened." 😀

I fully agree with you ... SWA isn't for everyone. In fact, if any carrier was for everyone then there wouldn't be a need for more than one.

ISP is a huge market and the lack of meaningful competition there is puzzling. Sure, MacArthur isn't the New York "glamour" airport but you'd think more airlines would recognize its potential.
