I was looking today and the last few years CLT-EYW ended in May but I found it going to Jun 15. Quick is not loaded any ferther than that as of 7/13/10. I am excited to see that. Anyone else found anything?

Good news indeed! Is it still a Republic E-175? I would better news if it was mainline E-190! Does Republic still do any of the MCO-EYW-FLL turns or only US destination out of EYW is the CLT hub now?

It is still republic but i wish it was mainline with an e 190. I love my day trips down to EYW. It is only out of CLT but maby just maby they might send a flight or 2 out of PHL or DCA

The runway is only 4800', you would take a pretty big hit on any flight to PHL or DCA. And that's assuming there was an aircraft that could handle it. Much like Hilton Head, you need a special aircraft to work that route.

Cant a CRJ or CR7 flight that? or even a CR9 jw because mesa flys a CRJ from PHX-DSM and I beleave EYW-DCA/PHL is shorter than PHX-DSM even with a full load of 50 people cant it still take off with a full tank of gas?

It was great back in the day when Eastern sent 727-100's in and out of there. But I don't know how far they went (other than MIA or ATL).

Well, Hilton Head is only 500' shorter and RJs can't get in there at all.
According to Bombardier, a CRJ200 and CRJ900 at MTOW requires 5800' for takeoff. Reducing weight will shorten that up, but I don't fly either and don't have the numbers for lower weights.

Even a 170 needs around 6700" at MTOW so you may find DCA and PHL I would guess that the difference between CLT at 700 miles and PHLY/DCA at over 1000 miles might start to cause weight restrictions.

The only aircraft larger than 50 seats that could operate from Key West at full MTOW that I can find would be a Q400. With a max range of 1500 miles, you could probably do it but it would still be a fairly long flight.

I wonder what restrictions DL has on their 737-700 flights from EYW-ATL? I read on A.net they were also flying an A-319 on one of their weekend flights. FL also is flying 737-700s between EYW-MCO. I'm sure an A-319 could be done between CLT-EYW, but the question would be how many seats could be sold and is it better to fly the E-175 instead?

Good question....
I've heard that DL's ATL flight is often capped at 100 pax and each passenger is limited to only 1 checked bag. I'd imagine cargo would be very limited, too. As far as the reverse direction, I'm sure landing weight is certainly an issue at EYW, as well.

As I said in the PHL-ANC thread, I would caution against using QIK as an accurate source for what seasonal flights will/will not operate next summer since it is essentially a default schedule that will be toyed with many times between now and when it is finalized. While I wouldn't be surprised to see US serve EYW year-round or atleast through August (LCC competition has helped spur the market, not surprisingly), I almost guarantee that it won't be 3 daily flights (what appears in QIK now) which is what the winter schedule traditionally is.

Back when Mainline err MidAtlantic flew into EYW, the 170 broke down in MCO (flew DCA-MCO-FLL-EYW)... OCC was able to find 2 qualified CA's and a 737-300 to send down here, albeit restricted. I guess US still had performance data from when mainline actually flew in here. Thank god we had a dry runway that day!

anyway, they were able to send a plane from somewhere else in the system and we were delayed for a while.

The CRJ-700s only appeared when mainline err MidAtlantic or PSA CRJ-200s had issues... we'd get CLT-SRQ-EYW-SRQ-CLT flights.

Do you have pictures or video to document this? Never heard about it.... ;) When did this rare event happen? 2006?

We ran CRJ200s in there from FLL for a few years. Some restrictions on the way out, not very often on the way in. We also ran CRJ700s from CLT for a while. I don't think they were ever restricted in either direction.
