Operational Transition
Today, a Pittsburgh Post-Gazette article reported that the US Airways flight center will almost certainly move to Phoenix. The news is understandably creating a stir among employees. The information is not confirmed and we’re sorry for confusion and unease that the article may have brought upon employees.
With only a week behind us since the merger became official, we face a long road of change within our company, much of which will be met by media speculation. Some employees will move to new facilities -- including a large number that will transfer from DC to Tempe as part of the administrative/support staff. Those employees can make a relatively quick transition, since they’re not impacted by the operating certificate.
Many employees in the operational groups, on the other hand -- including many at the flight operations center -- will be deeply involved in the operational transition for two to three years. That means that the company will have ample time to plan for and announce any changes. In other words -- and contrary to what the article reported -- employees won’t be uprooted with little or no notice.
We do recognize people want to know as soon as possible, and we are working diligently to make those decisions in a timely manner. As decisions are made regarding the PIT flight center location -- or any work location -- employees will be notified by the company.
