The company was given $39.5 billion in Iraq-related contracts over the past decade, with many of the deals given without any bidding from competing firms, such as a $568-million contract renewal in 2010 to provide housing, meals, water and bathroom services to soldiers, a deal that led to a Justice Department lawsuit over alleged kickbacks, as reported by Bloomberg.

Hmmm. If the contract was renewed two years after Obama was elected, how exactly is this Bush's fault?

Who else wants this business? Warren Buffett?

Seems to me anyone who wanted in on this lucrative business could have easily bribed Obama used their connections and influence to kick out Halliburton.

Yet, they continue to get contract renewals to do the work.

Maybe it's just a case of doing work nobody else wants to touch, and getting a nice premium for it.

Th article says Haliburton "made" 39.5 Billion. Clearly this shows a complete ignorance of basic business. "Making money" usually means PROFIT.

The left doesn't even know the difference between Revenue and profit.

Exactly. In 2011, AA had revenue of $24 billion but posted a net loss of $2 billion plus. Would anyone write that "AA made $24 billion" in 2011?

Is it right that companies profit at the expense of 5,000 lives? How about the fact that this war cost the tax payers over $2,000,000,000,000 dollars?

I guess war is quite profitable for those who are not putting their lives on the line.

Wasn't Halibut the company responsible for the soldiers who were electrocuted in the shower? Good thing they made a profit though.

Yea for capitalism.

Ohhh I don't know?? Why not ask Paul Krugman who is on record as stating that war is good for the economy. He's one of Obama's butt boy economists

Regardless what people say, Halliburton won the bid. To the idiot who says that they profitted off of 5000 lives, they miss the point that Halliburton employees lost their lives, too, thus preventing a higher soldier casualties. But don't let your hatred for Bush get in your way!

Few companies could have provided the service needed at the time. You can argue whether going there was right or wrong, but Halliburton is one of those that does what they do very well and few want the work, or can compete.

If you want one company to dk it all yes but there could have been numerous smaller companies to do multiple jobs instead.

Not to mention Backwater who was changing 3 or 4 times the cost of what a soldier is paid to do the same job. The US tax payer got hosed and the corporations walked away with buckets of cash while the tens of thousands of soldiers who have been injured or killed are getting screwed at every turn.

War is good business for everyone except those who are putting their lives on the line.

So the shower electrocutions are ok, as long as the work was performed by government employees !

What the hell are you talking about? According to the US Army Halburton was guilty of negligent homicide due to shoddy work. They cut corners and A Soldier died. Perhaps had the military does their own work Sgt. Ryan D. Maseth might still be alive. Mean while Haliburton walks away with billions in tax payer money.

Accidents happen and I'm sure Haliburton didn't intentionally electrocute this man!
And don't act like you care about the victim, because all your worried about is pushing your Anti-Capitalist agenda !
And there is no replacement, for losing a loved one, but did the family receive any compensation, not that it would help your agenda !

Now take your anti-Capitalist agenda and shove them................well, you know where !

Where are the jobs, BaRack ?
