Now that Frontier is flying from Denver to Calgary, I wonder if Southwest would ever consider the same route? I guess only time will tell, but international expansion is certainly on Southwest's mind.

I live in Windsor, Ontario and fly SWA (a lot) from DTW. I have written to PR in Dallas about new services several times, and have asked about SWA flying to/from Canadain cities. Their reply has been that SWA has never had any interest in being an international carrier even with US customs being based at the larger Canadian airports. Calgary would be the only feasable Canadina destination since Buffalo is about 100mi. from Toronto, and Seattle/Tacoma is 175mi. from Vancouver. I think that SWA will move into many more US airports before considering Canada and Mexico, if ever.

That commute (along with customs) must be a bore, eh? It would be nice to spread the "Southwest effect" to Calgary. Calgary's WestJet is to Canada as Southwest is to the U.S., but I like Southwest better.

What about a code-share with Westjet? Any comments? If the ATA code-share is working, why not more code-sharing? I realize that Westjet service to USA is somewhat limited, but if there was an agreement reached between SWA and Westjet I could easily see Westjet offering more flights to USA (especially to BWI and MDW).

A code share with Westjet would make a lot of sense. I really like that idea, but which US airports do both Southwest and Westjet service? It would have to be something similar to the deal between ATA and SWA at MDW. I live about a 1hr. drive from DTW with a 10-15min. wait to get through customs at the bridge. Then I need to be checking in at DTW about 75min. prior to departure for the domestic flight. Flying domestic from Detroit (or Buffalo) is considerably cheaper than an international flight from Toronto.

On a year-round basis, Westjet flies to LAS, LAX, and MCO. In the winter they also fly to FLL, RSW, PBI, TPA, PHX, and PSP.

LAS

Westjet and SWA have 6 airports in common: FLL, LAS, LAX, MCO, PBI, and TPA.
The problem is that none of these places would be a feasable connection point for either airline between the US and Canada. Code sharing would make sense if Westjet began non-stop service from several Canadian cities to BWI, DEN, and/or MDW.

Disagree on one of the above. LAS would be a decent Southwest/Westjet connection point on flights to/from the LA-area airports, SAN, PHX, and TUS.

You're right. LAS could work, but if Westjet had Toronto/Midway and Calgary/Midway routes codesharing would make total sense.

I think it is highly possible to see WN jets flying to Canada from BNA if they do decide to fly to Canada. PAX numbers remain high for WN here and the Air Canada flights to here from Toronto have increased over the last year in frequency. WN to Canadian destinations is possible for this focus city.

Didn't WN say that they are upgrading their reservations system to handle international taxes and fees along with advance seat assignments? I swear I saw this posted somewhere.

After the computer upgrade is completed within the next two years, I would expect WN to announce some international destinations. In addition, I bet WN will take over ATA's reservation and check-in functions completely at that time as well.

Southwest flying from Toronto to BWI or MDW would be very popular, and provide stiff competition to United and Air Canada. There also would be a lot of connection to Florida via BWI, and to LAS and LAX via MDW. I would be surprised to see this in the near future though.

Southwest already flies these routes, only they insist on calling the city Buffalo instead of Toronto. :D
