US Air and United declared bankruptcy immediately after the employees agreed to allow the respective companies to renege on the contracts, having done so in hope that they would not declare bankruptcy. (bye bye 401k and pension)
Not only did mgt put the employees before the firing squad, they made the employees buy the bullets.
