In the current issue of Air Transport World (FEB 05), many airlines recieved awards such as "Airline of the Year", "Regional of the Year, etc...... In the Odds & Ends section were "The Alternate Awards", which is their idea of a joke. We should all be proud of this one....
Reads as follows:
GUN to FOOT AWARD..
US AIRWAYS
"US Airways employees have had a tough time as the company finally faces up to its historically high costs, its future in doubt. But some workers, casting aside any perception of awareness that the airline industry is a service industry with a huge customer buy-in required for continued existence, decided that the Christmas holiday was the perfect time to display their pique, losing bags, calling in sick and generally making it a truly unforgettable experience for thousands of (former) customers. Oddly, the move did not improve the airline's financial fortunes;after the holidays the negotiations for contract givebacks continued, the unionists limping a bit on their way to the table."
