ATTENTION: Relocated Members
We have heard from several of our members who were formerly located in Atlanta, expressing concerns about the Company’s foot dragging regarding reimbursement of moving expenses. One of our members approached us seeking our assistance with this particular issue and here is what we have discovered.

Our member’s initial reimbursement request was filed with the Company in early October of this year, however it wasn’t until Friday December 13th that a Company representative was available for consultation on this matter. Through the course of this conference the Company’s representative expressed his concern with the fact that our member hadn’t sold his former residence in Atlanta. We asked the Company’s representative if this was the Company’s only concern regarding our member’s reimbursement request and that if this issue were resolved would he be paid? He stated yes it is a concern, and he went onto to state that an employee is required to sell his former residence before he would be eligible for reimbursement. We then asked the representative if he was aware of an arbitration decision concerning the reimbursement of moving expenses that was rendered earlier this year? He professed that this was the first time that he had been made aware of it. In that arbitration decision the arbitrator declared that with regards to the contractual language that states;

“An AMFA represented employee who actually moves his household goods and personal effects to the new point or station under the following circumstances shall be entitled to moving expenses…â€

he determined that this language, “meaningfully reflects the assumption that there will in fact be a wholesale displacement from one location to another, including the “actual†movement of household goods and personal effects and the establishment of a bona fide residence in the new location. He went on to state that this does not necessarily mean an employee’s family must make the move or that the old residence must be sold.â€

So we explained to the Company representative that our member had crammed a toolbox, bed, dresser, television, chairs, table, pots, pans, dishes, silverware, and as many other household goods that the “anchor†(i.e. the Company’s definition of spouse) would allow him to abscond from the family, into the back of his pick-up truck and relocated to Minneapolis. We went on to confirm for the Company that he in fact leased an apartment thus establishing a bona fide new residence in Minneapolis by providing a copy of the lease agreement, so as to assuage their concern that he was merely relocating to a temporary “crash pad.†After a half hour of robust discussion, the Company’s representative stated that he would be in contact with us and let us know when our member would be receiving his reimbursement.

On the following business day when we inquired about the final determination we received the following statement;

“Based on the fact that the employee has not made a household move other than loading the back of his pick up, and he has not changed his address in ACCESS, he is not eligible for the 3,500 reimbursement under the AMFA contract.â€

So it has become very clear to us that the Company will be using every delay tactic known to man to try and chisel our members out of their moving expense reimbursement. So if you have filed for reimbursement of your moving expenses, and you have either been denied your claim or have not heard one way or the other please contact your local Shop Committee immediately and begin the grievance filing process with regards to your reimbursement for moving expenses.

Ozark Merges with TWA

When Ozark merged with TWA, due to the contract language TWA was forced to hire more than 500 mechanics to handle engine, accessory, and aircraft components work that amfa had allowed to be farmed out. The new mechanics that TWA hired almost doubled the size of the Ozark mechanics workforce that merged in.

The amfa ran out of town in the middle of the night leaving loyal supporters a $ 9,000 bill on the offices they had used. After amfa didn't show in court to answer the charges on the bill the court gave a judgement for $ 15,000 that amfa had a hard time paying. Delle left those loyal supporters holding the bag.

Should we bring up the recent lawsuit about how the TWU left retirees holding the bag on the insurance scam that the TWU was peddling?

Show us your documentaion and we will get you ours.

Oh Capt. Kirk,
After reading the letter you posted above I thought you had switched to AMFA.
If you ment to damage AMFA at NWA or the current drive at AA, you failed.
The letter just shows once again that AMFA is fighting for the membership.
The letter also shows that some NW workers from the "closed ATL base" did
take the opportunity to transfer. twu (notice the small letters) talked like all the ATL members had been laid off with with no chance of keeping or getting thier jobs back.

What is it you were trying to prove by posting that letter?
I see good information in that letter.
Try again.

Another Great AMFA day... More to come! :D

Filed. I thought they heard it already. The Judge was highly critical of Sonny Hall and the TWU. When Sonny was asked if he knew what the papers he signed in relation to the policy they were peddling to members said he replied that he hadnt even bothered to read them!

I guess commissions from the Insurance company were all he had to know!

Good point Super....most AMFA members are quite literate in the re-location rules and regs...guess they have to be.
