My God! Are you people serious? Adding additional A/C for a two bit European operation that cancels flights when bookings are low?

Yeah, we got some etops 75's. Just prior to parking some other 75's. Net gain: zero.

If they get additional 330's, and that's a big if, look for a corresponding number of other mainline A/C to be parked or sold to keep the fleet at a "cost neutral" number.

When did this start? I remember back when Siegel was around the celebration for going a very long time without any transatlantic flight cancellations.

Does anyone know of the compatability of their 333's and ours?
They're actually A330-200's, which, IIRC, are smaller, but have longer range. They are P&W powered, as are USA A330s. Not too many PW powered operators out there -- wonder who else might be interested (if anyone)...

AAR Asiana Airlines
AUA Austrian Airlines
DLH Lufthansa
DRD Air Madrid

MAS Malaysia Airlines

TAM TAM (Brazil)
TAP TAP Air Portugal
THA Turkish Airlines
USA US Airways

If there's no demand for the airplane and USA can get them at a low, low lease rate -- hmm. Only time will tell...

It sure would be nice of US to have 4 more A330 to use...

Just read, on another site About US Airways "You Asked It" (Frequently Asked Questions).

Question: It appears that Austrian Airlines, a member of the Star Alliance, in order to cut costs is planning to get rid of its fleet (4 a/c) of A332's. As a fellow member of the Star Alliance is US Airways aware of the possible sale of these aircraft and are we in communication with Austrian to retain the leases? How much communication is done between members of the Alliance about aircraft opportunities like this?

Answer: Airplanes are generally sold via brokers (middle-men) that work to maximize value. Some of our partners have contacted us in the past, like Air Canada about their A340s, while others have not. In the end all airlines are looking to achieve the highest value for their aircraft regardless of the buyer.

We will get those 330s only if no one else wants them. If any other mildly motivated carrier bids on them, we will pass the opportunity by. (Better to let someone else expand THEIR market share.) Dougie is looking for bargains and ONLY bargains; and then he'll ask for an "airline discount."

As far as the 340s. Not gonna happen. Take it to the bank!
