Astroturf and manipulation of media messages

Speaking of manipulation.

On the sidelines of a United Nations luncheon on Saturday, Merkel was caught on a hot mic pressing Zuckerberg about social media posts about the wave of Syrian refugees entering Germany, the publication reported.

The Facebook CEO was overheard responding that "we need to do some work" on curtailing anti-immigrant posts about the refugee crisis. "Are you working on this?" Merkel asked in English, to which Zuckerberg replied in the affirmative before the transmission was disrupted.

Maybe she was talking about curtailing hate speech on FB, and he was replying in the affirmative? They do have a standard of conduct, and do review reported content.

Just a thought...

Another prime example of media manipulation.

Despite the video evidence to the contrary.

How about curtailing reports of criminal actions by refugees causing public sentiment to go out the window.

She wouldn't have to grovel Zuckerberg to support existing rules of conduct, would she?

Germany has a long history of curtailing speech in favor of political correctness. And with devastating consequences..

Interesting cross section of media outlets in your screen capture.

Not sure what you're debating; every headline except one uses the term "alleged" in conjunction with the sexual assault (which depending on when you grabbed that, was being investigated by the JVL police dept.), and pepper spray, which very obviously did happen.

Unless your contention is that the footage is doctored!

Doesn't matter how much either of us values free speech; it doesn't exist on the interwebs...

The New Part-Time Job: "Get Paid $15 An Hour To Protest At The Trump Rally"
http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2016-03-30/seen-craigslist-get-paid-15-hour-protest-trump-rally

For those wondering why Trump rallies tend to devolve to pugilistic matches, where even belligerent 15-year-old protesting (or perhaps "provocative" is a better word) girls end up getting pepper sprayed much to the media's fascination, the answer is Craig's List ads such as the one below, in which allegedly "I'm feelin' the Bern"-affiliated organizers provide paid positions for protesters at Trump rallies, and which provide not only shuttle buses, parking, and signs (as well as time cards) but also hand out $15/hour (as a "part-time employment") for said protest activity "due to the economic inequality.

Another prime example of media manipulation

Facebook news selection is in hands of editors not algorithms, documents show

Leaked documents show how Facebook, now the biggest news distributor on the planet, relies on old-fashioned news values on top of its algorithms to determine what the hottest stories will be for the 1 billion people who visit the social network every day.

The documents, given to the Guardian, come amid growing concerns over how Facebook decides what is news for its users. This week the company was accused of an editorial bias against conservative news organizations, prompting calls for a congressional inquiry from the US Senate commerce committee chair, John Thune.
