Has this been discussed here? Media reports that ACA is opposing a transfer of slots from NWA to U..... 24 slots.

Interesting.

As an aside, ACAI's stock certainly isn't looking too great. We'll see how long they last.

DL is currently leasing 24 slots from NW. The lease expires on Oct 31 and DL has decided not to renew the lease, so the slots go back to NW. Apparently, US is interested in leasing the slots from NW (I'm guessing as part of the focus on DCA transformation plan). With US being the largest slot holder at DCA, some don't like the idea of US getting a hold of even more slots.

However, given the fact that NW owns these slots, they are pretty much free to lease them to whomever they desire.

This seems odd. One, why on earth would DL not want them? Two, why wouldn't NW want to use them? Three, why would NW lease them to US when DL-NW are now partners?

After the demise of Eastern, NW tried to have a mini-hub at DCA with flights to Florida and Boston. It didn't last long. U naturally picked up many of the markets with slots leased or bought from NW. DL not wanting them is a sign that they have pulled the DFW flights again, or some of their own slots have come off of lease.

Row, where are these media reports? Can you provide links or at least tell us which media are reporting this?

Spirit and Comair have been freaking out in recent DOT filings that NW is leasing its slots to another carrier this fall. This is the first I've heard that the mystery carrier is US though. It does make sense, as I can't think of anyone other than DL or US who would want them.

(NW wanted more money than DL wanted to pay to renew the lease.)

Watch for SWA to try and buy those slots and put more pressure on US. It could be a game of keep-away. As long as someone gets the slots other than US, SWA will be happy. Just my thoughts......

very very very interesting , we have enough money to Lease slots from a competitor.....

javaboy, there are many different definitions for "have enough money."

The only thing US has enough money for is anything that will generate more revenue than it costs to get. It's quite possible that DCA slots fit that definition.

Oh please, WN doesn't give a rat's ass about US. WN can do whatever it wants, whenever it wants. If WN wanted into DCA, they had ample opportunities to apply for some of the exemptions -- they didn't even apply! Most likely because WN likes to "max out" a station to get the most out of its resources. Having 24 slots equates to a rather small operation with the overhead not spread over many flights. IAD is a better option for them long term.

12 flights a day for SWA is bigger than JAN, IAH, ALB, AMA, PBI, CRP, and HRL. There is a much larger passenger base here than in those cities. I am just saying that there is a chance. Just my thoughts.......

These are an ASSET for NWA, do you really think they would sell them? I for one do not. They are worth way to them to sell them.
