Yawn! Yea the whole world hates AA. That is why United left NY and MIA to AA. Got a surprise for you. People actually love to fly us. They love the service our advantage program. In Central and South America we carry more customers to more countries than there own flag carriers do. If your whole success is based solely on the mixed up notion that everyone is as filled with (almost) hate, as you say. U is in for a rude awakening. Latin American people are brand oriented and do not change easily. They also don't gamble with there money, by booking in advance on bankrupt carriers. They expect a business class service with something a little bit better than plastic and styrofoam cups. I will make a note to call my friends at UAL. Watch out, they will be gunning for you and the pacific rim next. U is taking over the world.

LOL! That must explain why Delta's once huge dreams for an Atlanta gateway to Latin America haven't worked out as planed, because people kept flying American. That's why Continental couldn't make Bolivia and Chile work. That's why United gave up on the Miami and New York City to Latin America markets, not to mention Chile, Peru, and Venezuela all together.

I'd love to see how US Airways plans to serve Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Buenos Aires when:

A) They don't have the equipment (that would require six long-haul aircraft)
B) There are no more slots for US carriers to fly between the US and Brazil or the US and Argentina.

As for a response from AA...they are going to do something. More flights out of MIA? Low fares out of PIT and CLT? More flights of PHL? New routes out of FLL? We'll know within the next few days.

In other news, Spirit is announcing FLL-SDQ on Wednesday.

I expect that AA will add about 10 flights out of FLL to the International markets and add about 15 flights in PHL all to Florida markets. AA will respond and they will try to make it hurt. Just my thoughts...........

Does AA have the gates in Terminal A East to do that?

AA has 6 gates there is one open on concourse F plus ATA has one open part of the day. Ted has the last two and has open time as well.

I thought US had all of Terminal F (that's the express gate)--Does AA fly out of there as well?

Ted has gates in PHL? Where? Isn't UA in Terminal D?

I'm sorry, I was referring to the post about AA adding more flights out of PHL to Florida markets. Does AA have anymore gates at PHL in Terminal A-East? Why would they add flights to Florida when the fares are low and PHL has WN flying those routes as well.

Oh, sorry. Who knows we are all just speculating. I think we nave space. I havn't to PHL in a while. We do have most of the concourse and I think U has the a couple on there as well.

With negotiation stopped, and a fed up work force. AA may announce something but wait out to see if U can even make this next hurdle.

The advantage program, a major reason many people choose us.

There is a United a carrier with a stronger name recognition that U was unable or unwilling to compete in Central America to South Florida. Think about it, U is no where in a class of international service, comfort or name recognition to United.

But US and UA are part of the STAR Alliance and that might be the reason. There are a lot of people that currently have no other choice that connecting on AA and they are loyal to any STAR carrier. With UA entering the market they will get the miles and segments in their alliance.

So at the end it is not just the airline but the alliance that give them the recognition.

They don’t have to. They are part of STAR Alliance and with UA and VG! And giving up MIA as a hub might have been a wise idea. Looking at the origination points of the passengers it could be in the best interest of the airline to fly from their main hubs to those areas. Just because DAL is a hub for AA does not mean that all other airlines have to do the same. At the end it is economics.

Its is economics. Nothing saying UA had to hub here for South America. But the numbers speak for themselves. AA has look at using ORD three times. But there is so little local traffic it doesn't justify the investment. That is the reason we have been told by management and sales why AA doesn't run South America from our ORD hub. If UA makes it work great for them. But you figure that they are relying on people connecting for the bulk of there traffic. Plus they lost for inconvenience sake a lot of local S. Florida traffic. People not wanting to connect or fly north earlier in the day to fly all night long south.

For years until 1990, service to Latin Ameica by US airlines was routine. Leave Miami at around 5:00pm, if it was north of Peru, arriving in CCS, BOG, Panama, SDQ, GUA, SJO and other points as sun was going down. All the planes would overnight a be back in Miami by lunch time. Brazil, Arentina & chile were overnight in both directions with the planes getting at tan in Miami or EZE, GRU or GIG. This was the Pan AM and Eastern pattren flying a daily rotation. Then the grand two old ladies went BK and the TEXANS arrived.

Miami finaly had a well capitalized airline to fly to Latin America, they said if people want multiple daily flights between Dallas and LAX or JFK and MIA why not between MIA and CCS, BOG, EZE and all the rest. All of a sudden you could fly to CCS in the morning and be back in miami that night. Fly a nice 757 with 22 business class seats for excutives with 4 flights each way daily or 777 for the 9 hours with suites in first class to Argentina, chile and Brazil. Suddenly the Avianca's, Aeroperu's, & Ecadoriana's had to throw away the 707's & DC-8, still a common sight in Miami in the late 1980's, and get 757's or even 727-200's. AA made the South Americans more efficient.

Just look at what competition has gotten them. Copa in Panama with its modern 737NG fleet, Lan Chile's 767's and A340's & in central america the TACA group. AA has been good for MIA and the competition. As far as US is concerned, AA welcomes the competition. The caribean market from CLT, PHL and points north is a different beast then the latin market from Florida. US can serve points a far as Peru with its A319's from FLL. I wish them well because a bigger market is better for everybody, and florida business's.
