American the spoiler

And wasn't even that on the table at one point in the not so distant past?...

What would happen to the TWA recalled f/a's if a merger does occur? Would we be pushed back to the bus again? If that should occur, this will be a mess. The Omnibus has already been signed by Shrub.

Not looking for an argument, just thoughts.

Claire's "advisors" were inexperienced and didn't see the process in the whole. The bill does not say DOH but a fair and equitable merger of seniorities. It will also affect the RENO f/as. My how soon everyone has forgotten that they were also stapled. Should be interesting.

As in the Kasher ruling, he determined that fair and equitable was based on AA vs TWA size and ASM's.

Fair and Equitable does not necessarily mean a dovetail.

There is always the SWA way of doing it.

Southwest Airlines Co. isn't ruling out a merger, CEO Gary Kelly said Thursday.

"I could see our participation ranging from doing nothing and benefiting from reduced capacity by our competitors all the way to us potentially combining with another carrier," Kelly said at a New York conference for analysts and investors.

His comments keep alive the possibility of a merger role for Southwest amid analysts' focus on possible combinations by carriers such as Delta, United and Northwest.

Should other airlines push toward consolidation, Dallas-based Southwest could respond because it has "a strong balance sheet, a lot of cash in the bank and a low-cost structure," Kelly said. "We'll be ready."

Southwest, which flies only Boeing Co. 737 jets to help control costs, wouldn't be deterred from acquiring an airline with a different fleet type, Kelly said.

"While that is an impediment toward an acquisition, it's not a deal killer," he said.

Southwest would consider selling the second aircraft type in an acquisition, given the current strong demand for planes, Kelly said.

And, there's always ATA which could give SWA "overseas" capability. I don't see SWA messing with "true" International service, but SWA flights to Hawaii, the Caribbean and Mexico/Central America would not be outside the realm of possibility.

You know, there comes a time, in every company's life(A Rare moment if you will), that said company just "might" do something greatly out of the "Norm"

AA is having pilot staffing problems(guys NOT sticking around to 65),that they really did'nt count on !

The stock is in the CRAPPER.....BIG TIME !

Jet-A spends a LOT of time in the Stratosphere !

Sooner or later(SOONER I BELIEVE), DL with set the M + A ball "rolling", causing the other legacy's to act with Lightning speed !

Checci + Wilson tried to give ("uncle") Bobby a $$$$ Hand job, over the price for NW, which was the ONLY reason NW did NOT come to fruition for AA

Carty "blinked" at the price for NW, shortly before he left(that being the 2nd attempt between AA/NW)

Using sheer LOGIC, instead of my usual passion(for a AA/NW deal), I could SERIOUSLY see the AMR/BOD's TELLING Arpey to SPEND the MONEY(Whatever it takes/think 787's) to get this deal done, ONCE and For ALL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What would probably have been a plan "C"..or plan "D", by the BOD's, "could" be one of those VERY rare moments, that predictability is by-passed, due to the current aviation environment !

One thing is for sure,........we ALL will know whats "going to go down", in the very NEAR future !

Bears, the BOD isn't going to tell Arpey to go spend a billion or three on NWA with all the labor contracts up in the air.Period.Full Stop.

Did you know United has reduced the number of beyond flights they operate from NRT to Three?(SIN,PEK and ICN if I'm not mistaken) NWA hasn't yet, but they probably will as well also.

There is no need to spend a few billion bucks on NWA only to end up parking huge numbers of their aircraft, laying off thousands of their people and generally f@cking up another airline.

If they want to throw billions around, try settling up the labor contracts and ordering some more goddamn aircraft for growth and fleet renewal.

Buying the company doesn't mean you take the employees. AA might not want to do that again. Also, the airlines in question may decide the parts are worth more than the whole.

Actually that is not correct, UAL does fly more routes than that out of NRT...

I've said it before... AA is better off growing internally. But LGA's right -- there won't be a merger without at least a pilot contract being signed. That's not to say that AA wouldn't find a way of investing in another carrier similar to what NWA did with TPG and YX. TPG fronted the cash and essentially gave NWA first right of refusal without taking actual control. Perhaps a similar deal might happen where AA invests in NW but doesn't take effective control.
