Stormchaser:
My prayers are with you and your wife during these difficult times. I know that all you are looking for is a ray of hope -- a reason to continue -- and it seems like all your get is negative -- "No" "Can't do that" etc... Try not to let the nay-sayers get you down. If that's one thing I've learned in my short years is that "no" is never the only answer -- unless I am willing to accept it.
Like many other posters have suggested, be sure to follow-up with the people at US Airways that might be able to help you. While by no means is your situation unique, it is out of the ordinary. I know, you're already fighting a difficult battle and you don't want to take on another one. Emotions are high and energy is low. Think of this change in healthcare plans as a "tumor" itself; you will find the strength to fight it and to treat it in the best possible manner. Also, as another alternative, you may even want to talk to the Doctor(s). Maybe they can work something out. Maybe they can sign up to UHC? Maybe they can accept whatever UHC will cover "out of network" and let you slide on the balance owed them or give you a discount, or something like that... Doctors are human, too, and they just might surprise you.
Again, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your wife and I wish you strength to find the answers you need.
