ALPA MEC CODE-A-PHONE UPDATE - September 22, 2004
This is Jack Stephan with a US Airways MEC update for Wednesday, September 22nd, with three new items.
Item 1. The MEC re-convened its special meeting today at the Charlotte Marriott Executive Park and unanimously passed the following resolution:
WHEREAS the Negotiating Committee has engaged in negotiations with the Company for several months, and
WHEREAS the environment has changed since the Company entered Chapter 11,
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the MEC directs the Negotiating Committee to continue in negotiations with the Company in order to reach a Tentative Agreement.
THEREFORE BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the Negotiating Committee will bring that Tentative Agreement back to the MEC for its consideration and review.
This resolution allows our pilot negotiators to proceed unrestricted and provides them with a renewed momentum to reach a Tentative Agreement. Even though an 1113 motion may be filed by the Company during these discussions, your Negotiating Committee is prepared to continue talks promptly with the Company to bring closure to a process that ALPA initiated in February of this year. An MEC press release was also distributed today that announces resumed negotiations. It is available on the MEC public and pilots only websites.
The Negotiating Committee contacted management following the passage of this resolution, and committee members are currently meeting internally. Please continue to use the code a phone and the website to keep up to date on the latest information on these negotiations.
The special meeting adjourned this afternoon at 1:20 p.m.
Item 2. All CLT 7I F/O Primary Lines awarded for NOV 2004 were incorrectly awarded. As a result, Primary lines will be re-awarded for F/Os only. Further information for these pilots on this matter is available on the pilots only website under MEC information.
Item 3. MEC Chairman Bill Pollock will soon be recording a chairman’s message to the pilots concerning the actions that were taken at the recent special meeting in CLT, and the importance that the line pilots who attended this meeting brought to the process. You can listen to the Chairman’s message to the pilots by calling the code-a-phone number at 800-FOR-ALPA, or 800-367-2572, and then pressing 2. It will also be posted on the US Airways public and pilots only home page at www.usairwayspilots.org.
Please remember we have 1,879 pilots on furlough.
Thank you for listening.
