(Moderator Note: This topic moved from both American Airlines and US Airways forums as it evidently affects more than one airline.)

And yes, OAs too.

Several major airlines will sell ads on boarding passes printed at home

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Luggage? Got it. Boarding pass? Check. Ads on boarding pass to help beleaguered airline industry pay for expensive fuel? Check.
Several major airlines will begin displaying ads on boarding passes for customers who check in from home. Customers can print the boarding passes without ads if they want.

"The airlines said they have worked to make sure they do not annoy customers with the ads. " (From the article)

Hahahahaha, I want to see how they accomplish that.

This is a great idea. It will be even better if they can make the advertisments specific to the customer's destination.

We should have been doing this along time ago.

I’ll guess that you can opt out of it sometime during the OLCI process similar to declining email “newslettersâ€￾ when you register for something on a website. I wouldn’t mind something like a coupon for a restaurant at my destination, which looks like what Sojern would like to eventually do.

It’s a good thing OAs are in on this program. Anyone want to take a stab at what this advertising would be like if Tempe was doing this on their own (with no opt-out)?

It is a great idea, however what are the chances that Tempe's IT department could write the code to do that function. I would say, Slim.

Using your own paper and ink, since those will only appear on the ones that you print yourself.

Travelers who check in from a home computer will see their boarding pass along with information for their destination including weather, restaurants, and attractions in the city to which they're flying. Sojern said it will limit the boarding pass to one printed page, the same as current ad-free boarding passes.

I also think its a great idea to increase revenue, adds for car rentals, vacation spots, etc. are perfect advertising for a boarding pass. Most every receit I get now days has advertising on it. Great idea.
