Airline stocks down sharply - DOJ reportedly to block AMR/LCC

where was the DOJ when wall street turned into a squid and took over the entire countries economy ....

now that an ACTUAL company that does REAL business ( you know not just making money off of cheap no interest government loans ) actually want's to build itself up, they DARE to stand in the way .

Just heard live: DOJ says "merger should not go thru even if AA and US agree to carve out concessions" DOJ is pushing 100% to not allowing this merger to go thru...

drunkard is not the issue according to the lawsuit... repeatedly saying that the merger will result in higher fares is what appears to have gotten the DOJ all wound up.

Quite obviously, Parker's alcoholism isn't mentioned, but I'm not a fan of drunkards. Throughout his lifetime, he's demonstrated very poor judgment with respect to alcohol and driving dating back to the late 1980s in North Texas, and his poor judgment may carry over to workday situations, like his repeated statements that the DoJ now quotes in support of their lawsuit.

If fares go up flying into DC then that is less money available for lobbiests to grease the politicians palms!!

And just think how much he will drink after the final word from DOJ is "no merger"??

Freedom, it's over. The merger will not happen. I for reasons that I'm tied to Parker's ship wanted it to happen but I accept it will not.

you've got no fight in you huh ? do you feel that way about everything in life ?

you won't even TRY to fight ?

And what do you expect to do to change the DOJ mind?! Scream and shout at the DOJ to agree with you??? There are bigger business/political games being played here that you or nor I have any control of. Plus being based in phx you will for sure have job security where as after the merger it could have been a coin flip with what happens with staffing.

I do feel its a shady thing not to approve it however. Someone's palm didn't get greased and amazingly the UA/CO deal approved without a whim.

Yeah sorry, fighting the govt is a loosing proposition. I've got better things to concentrate on, family and other business

I don't understand people today ... SO quick to give up without even trying ... so quick to say that the issues they face are bigger than they are and can't possibly be tackled ...

it's like hopelessness has been bred into Americans ... we live in a society today where no one is even willing to stand up for themselves ...

DOJ just announced that settlements from the airlines will not change blocking the merger. It really does sound like the merger is doomed. Unless AA/US decide to divest a HUGE amount of flights, routes and slots at certain airports to better compete rather than being over dominate.

i wonder how us/aa will actually handle this whole suit from the doj? also whose to say that the fees and the prices go up any how just wonder how red their ugly faces in dc would turn after the final rejection to the merger that the fees go up

Your correct, the fees and ticket prices are not guaranteed to go up. However, on the conference call it was noted several times that the DOJ took the time to investigate the results of the past mergers and these investigations have shown a tremendous increases in fees, tickets, as other ancillary increases put onto the consumers. So they are going by past practice. However, I feel the increases are more based on fuel and cost not jabbing the consumers just because. Just my opinion...
