Airline Offers To Trim Bonuses

They got you suckers to VOTE YES three times to concessions and flushed your pensions down the toilet. Found another sucker(AWA) to buy your worthless airline out. I think they deserve that money and more! They did what they(USA management) were supposed to do! The UNION employees failed to do what they should have done and that is. STRIKE US AIRWAYS until it folded! USAIR employees started the snowball rolling down to hell then it hit AA. AA SCABS then voted YES also and made that snowball ball even bigger and gave it even more momentum headed to hell. Now our industry is wrecked and will never recover from the AIRLINE HOLOCAUST!

Go ahead now and call me names!

Bob, don't fret...he's a newbie, you know, the CCY type.

A PRECISE statement showing scrupulously strict and detailed conformity to FACT. Name calling is not merited because truth can not be altered.

Princess,

HP doesn't have any money. By years end they would be in a liquidity crunch, and would have to wonder their butts into BK.

The holding companies are the investors, neither U nor HP have a pot to piss in. HP maybe in better shape then U, but in a few months, they would have been washed out. HP's been looking for a partner since last year. They finally found their mate. I heard the rumplings last year, but didn't think U would make it long enough to consolidate. Well, another trip to BK, and 23% paycuts for labor, more dumping of pensions, and finally, the holding co. investors takes us to the alter...just in time for a fat payout for all the Execs.

Olivia,

The life time medical has been dropped, (wow a wopping $300,000 in savings) they all still walk away with $14 million for 25 execs and the top brass getting the bulk of those millions.

I've actually missed ya!!

Perhaps retention bonuses should be paid if one of the elite management group has received a bona-fide offer of employment from another company. If other companies are really clamoring to hire US management ( because of their fine reputation) then the company should at least be allowed to counter-offer. Why are we handing out money to executives so they don't leave when they aren't planning on going anywhere!
Most of the middle management who is left isn't the cream of the crop- they are long gone. Let them go and find another job. Chances are other companies aren't offering the pay and bennies these folks are raking in. Many middle management folks are making in the 50-60k range, don't have degrees, and don't have any experience outside the airline industry.
They will stick around, bonus or not, they have no where else to go.

One of the reasons Continental made such a dramatic turnaround was Bethune's efforts to remove and replace many of the mid and senior level managers, replacing them with new blood.

In any merger there will be duplication of management, requiring the cost and trouble of letting some go. If this merger's synergies are touted for assets and routes and so on, with fewer "liabilities because of the BK process, then that premise must be applied to all aspects of the merger, including the easier task of combining management suites due to attrition at US

What is good for the goose is good for th gander afterall

One of the PI stories that made the rounds.

When Bill Howard made CEO, he pulled a surprise inspection at HQ.

He asked one question. "What do you contribute to the profitability of this airline?"

If you didn't have a cogent, brief and on-point answer, you got 30 minutes to gather your personal property, and a security escort off the property.

If Mr. Parker were to conduct a similiar and honest strategy at the Palace, U folks would start naming their children after him.

Of course, he could save himself the trouble, and read this board!!!

Ah Rico,

Managment gets a salary just like every other person that is employed. They are here to do their jobs, otherwise, why pay them at all. They shouldn't be paid bonus money or retention to stay. There are many, many airline unemployed; labor and managment that can and would take their place. There is also lower and middle management that understand the business and should be promoted as senior execs leave, if they so choose. Jerry G. got a promotion to "Officer" in order for him to receive the bonus and perks that officers do. WE aren't stupid down here. We know how it works.

I suspect the stock will be zeroed out in the old company, and those execs who are asked to go to AWA will receive stock options if they transfer as senior ranks. Jerry is smarter than smart, and he knows instintively how to get a piece of the action.

I dont believe that this groupd of thieves even deserves a dam dime for all the failures they have done and yet to even issue an apology for the christmas meltdown.

Dear Bob,

This is the very point...they can't justify anything. Its the "good-old-boys club".

PitBull:

I agree. There is a good old boys club, but
it is limited to those who are in VP and higher
positions at US. You have every right to
be angry with them and the way they ran
US into the ground.

Just remember that this particular group
should be specified as the target of your
anger, and NOT the 1800 plus management
level employees who are only trying to
make a living, just like the union represented
employees are.

The 1800 or so management level employees
are only included in the severance clause of
the recent filing with the BK court, and will
not see any "retention bonus".

What the unions need to do is convince the
judge to separate the retention bonuses
from the severance awards, and have the
judge strike down the retention bonus
portion of the court filing.

Thank You.

" Where I come from Bonuses are EARNED. (ya think? )Things like exceptional on time performance, Profit, Below average PAWOB's are some of the elements of EARNING a bonus. Warming the arse of a seat at a desk in CCY is NOT earning a bonus, it's morally Bankrupt. You have added no value for your customers or employees. Please justify your bonus to them not Judge Mitchell. ""

Oh yea! Right on! Just my two cents...I think all airline unions, from this point on, should refuse to negotiate any contract unless Management agrees to stipulations regarding executive pay, bonuses, payouts, stock options, golden parachutes, and all the other self-serving, cover-their-asses, "i-got-my-money, I'm-not-worried-about-labour" perks are TIED TO COMPANY FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE.

Not profitable this quarter Management? How about 3% reduction in pay. Get a huge, nice fat, BIG Bonus for, say, 12 consecutive quarterly profits....or maybe 6 consecutive quarterly profits...or howabout just 2 quarterly consecutive profits.... Maybe just ANY quarterly profit!!

This is old news to you, but the pilot group, despite losing their careers and retirements, are busting butt to save fuel.....mainly because they are true professionals. The very thought of 30 year F/As cleaning cabins, and Pilots acting as the new "departure chiefs"...and having all that savings go to the losers that got us in this mess the first place..is disgusting. Just venting a little. Best. Greeter.

We will be in court on Tuesday. I am not opposed to retaining the "real talent" in managment, and that is the lower and middle managment folks who care about the operation. There should be nothing for Senior managment. If they end up leaving...so be it. Promote from within.
