Dear Fellow Employees:

As you know...Thank you for your continued commitment to our passengers and to US Airways – I’m looking forward to continuing to see our name in the sky and working with the great people who make it happen.

Doug

Read as "I suck at mergers". Either he is as gullible as a New York tourist hovering over a shell game table or he is just plain stupid. Either way I am no longer able to feel any hope for a future in this industry beyond a niche airline with an aging workforce that is rejected by everyone.

Having read the poorly negotiated amfa contract that the ual mechs are currently under, not a snowballs chance in !@#%. Its a good thing for them that they are currently in negotiations with th IBT

The AMFA contract was rammed down our throats in BK. The best of the worst. I hope the IBT representation at CO is better than at UA.
They are nowhere to be found. They are useless. What a big mistake.

I'm sure you are correct about the AMFA contract. The IBT representation at Continental is where it is due to involvement by the represented workers. It has taken a while for things to get better in regards to our contract, just look at where we started from. Lorenzo. As far as never seeing the IBT representatives at UA I am sure that the front line reps being stewards are available at most times. If you attend the meetings at your local I'll bet that you will see a few there as well. Not to mention the locals web pages. I can tell you this for certain though, Clacy Griswold who is spearheading your negotiations is very good, and was instrumental in our past negotiations. If you feel that you are lacking information I suggest you bring this up with your BA and get involved. Remember the first part of union is U.

Can't argue with that.

Workers, passengers wary over airline merger
Employees worried about jobs, and customers worried about service

Passengers and customers alike of Continental Airlines were worried Sunday about merging with United Airlines, citing worries that customer service may deteriorate, jobs will disappear and Houston will lose the cachet of having a hometown airline.
“I think it will be bad,” said Tony Pierce, a graphic designer who was heading to North Carolina aboard a Continental flight Sunday afternoon. It's important for a city the size and importance of Houston to have its own airline, he said.
.....

The CO people I've talked with are less than happy about the merger. Can't say I blame them, no disrespect to UAL meant.

Ok, now it's almost a done deal...how do the Continental Employees feel about this? Good/Bad/Indifferent? Honestly, I can't see why you would choose the United name over Continental...United airlines has been a consistent LOSER year after year, while Continental has been the opposite. Just wait until all of those 30+ year employees get integrated into your seniority list...we just went through this with NW, but I'm sure it wasn't nearly as awful as it's going to be for CO...I think the bottom of UA seniority list starts at 15 years...

Years of service mean something, but in the scope of the whole merger you should end up in the same position relative to the whole. Since both airlines are about the same size your relative seniority number should remain the same. If your # 100 out of 1000 you should be # 200 out of 2000 or somewhere close to that. I know when CO merged with PE, NYA, and Frontier, there were 20 year employees at Frontier that ended up below 13 year employees at CO yet, they were still in their same "relative" position when all was said and done.

<_< ------ Good luck on that one people!------- From someone how's been there! ( exTWA)

Topic has run off the rails into another labor/union/seniority speculation. Thread closed.
