I read articles and post refering to the number of Bankruptcies USair has had. However I don't believe these are stated in the proper context.
So I ask, how many BKs (either individually or combined) has DAL/NWA had? Or UAL/CAL had? or USAir/Ameria West had???
How many BK's have occured under Dough Parkers watch at any airline?????
Was Doug Parker at America West during their 1991 BK? Has he filed BK since taking the helm of the combined LLC?
I only bring this up because the Mootley article harps on this from the beginning of their article like it is exclusive of USair??

Parker had just left AA for Northwest in 1991, so he wasn't with HP for their bankruptcy. HP didn't file again but was close to bankruptcy when HP and US merged in 2005. US filed a second Ch 11 petition not too long after their first Ch 11 plan was confirmed - so two bankruptcies for US in the 2002-05 timeframe.

NW and DL just one bankruptcy each. CO filed two but those were a long time ago. UA had one very long Ch 11 case post-September 11.

DAL/NWA = 2
UAL/CAL = 3
HP/UAair = 3

Parker was not at the helm of any BK's???

HP was close to BK when it merged with (twice) BK USair?
Are they (HP) worse off or better off now?
You think merging with USair saved HP form BK and may have actually made the combined carrier better than stand alone??

Makes one wonder about a possible American / HP ( opps i mean USair ) combo????

Not only has Parker never lead an Airline to BK, he has saved a lot of Jobs both at AWA & US. Cuts have been minimal and for the most part both entities have been hiring during his tenure.

US mainline employment:
2006: 34,462
2010: 30,876

US mainline fleet:
2006: 359
2010: 339

US mainline pilots:
2006: 4,935
2010: 3,967

US mainline FAs
2006: 7,956
2010: 6,982

Aggregate net income (loss) since merger: Net loss of $1.2 billion

Yes, US and HP didn't go out of business, and Parker has never been in charge of an airline as it entered Ch 11, but Parker has presided over a shrinking airline despite the lowest wages among the network legacy peers (UA, CO, DL, NW and AA).

Also, Parker has never pursued a merger with an airline that wasn't in bankruptcy. His style is to swoop in after the pain has been inflicted by someone else and be the "white knight" saving the day. Of course, he's never promised so much as he has this time either. US is barely profitable (if you exclude 2008 when fuel peaked resulting in a big loss), but only because of the low employee costs. Parker has never been CEO of a company that compensated the employees anywhere close to what's he's promised this time.

Show me a CEO or BOD that has kept their promises.

Take Care,

Probably the same as yours - sitting at Fidelity waiting for the price to go above $50-something so they'll be worth something...
