Aircraft Type/route Changes

In looking forward to the schedule for Jan. Looks like the high density a/c A300 and 757 will be sent to the leisure markets. Less and less 737's to the islands and hardly at all in SJU. SJU to BDL will be A300. MIA-CCS will have 2 A300's back again. Alot of islands will be getting 757's instead of 737's out of MIA. The 737's will be moved to more Business type markets both Domestic and Intl.
 
While I'm all for the islands getting the knee busting A300's, I don't think too many tourists are going to visit Caracas. The Capitol cities of Latin America are Visiting friends and relatives and businessmen, few tourists. Flights with few tourists have that "AA fare premuim", we are paying more "more room in coach". No A300's wanted.
 
JFK777 - True, the A300 is the pits, and since the US Customs inspectors hate to work this aircraft, ( LAVS in bad shape, smell of urine and feces in the air, cockroaches throughout) they spend less time (decreasing the turn-time) making it available faster for service back to the islands.

Maybe; they should change the name MAIN CABIN, to ROACH COACH, or SOMETHING SMELLY IN THE AIR.

Not that I care for the A300 either but remember the seats being added are only back to the original config. (industry standard)
 
Starting in Feb.SJC-LAS 3757s.LAS-LAX 1 of 3 flts. 757.Maybe more 757s going west also.

Sign of our lowered operating costs...make a go at making some cash at lower yeild-higher volume markets.(on the west coast at that!)....In years past we would have been running away from these types of situations with our tail between our legs......
 
The concept is simple: Pay Southwest prices get knee busting legroom.

Pay Avianca prices( Miami- Colombia)( lots of money) AA should provide 34" of legroom. If AA can have to fleets to fly real to Europe ( 767 & 777) then they can have two types of 757's. The kind with lots of room ( for business men) and another for tourists. May be the answer is to place all 757 on the "tourist" routes and use 737-800 on the "business" routes.

JFK777 I know how disappointed you are about this but somethimes painfull decisions must be made in order to make what is wrong right. Your suggestion about AA making a sub fleet type out of the 757's would not work. lets picture this scenario, AA has subfleeted their 757's one offering MRTC and the other with the standard leg room like the other airlines. Flight #xxx a full flight ( a 757 with the standard leg room configeration) is schelduled to depart from A airport, however it ran into some mechanical problems that will requrire more time. AA has another spare 757 at hand however it has the MRTC configeration and will be unable to carry all of them but they used it because it was the only one available, do you know how bad AA would look when they will have to tell some fustrated passengers (remember their flight was delayed) that they can't take the flight but they will be rebooked on a flight that will leave God knows when. This is the type of inefficientcies that AA is trying to avoid that might be costly to them at the end of the day so it makes sense to put thoes seats back on the entire fleet.

On another note do any one know if AA has decided which configeration of the boeing 777 they want to keep sense they have annouced that they wanted on type for efficientcy reasons?
 
In the long run the market will dictate what the passangers want and will pay for. AAs challange is to anticapate what markets would be best suited for what aircraft-something in the past they have not always done so well. As the fleet evolves thru the next few years, I would hope that equipment type would be a factor in the total product offered. Travelers now days are better informed and have more choices and tools to make their choices.
