Airbus A320 Plant In USA

Yes, I heard about this. Saw this same article on Google news somewhere. This is supposed to created over 2,000 jobs which is really good. I am really happy to see more manufactuering coming back to the USA. I know a few people wishing they were living in Alabama right now, to be able to compete for one of these jobs.

What? Do you just make this up as you go?

How did Obama single handedly get the US Worker the lowest pay of all the high skill manufacturing jobs in the world in 3 1/2 years? Do you have some data? Do we pay less than China, Mexico, Vietnam, Indonesia, etc. for high skill manufacturing jobs?

I would think Romney would be all over that.

[sup]They could've easily built a plant in India or China...[/sup]
[sup]This is more about being able to compete with Boeing for military contracts.[/sup]

I think you're completely correct.

Hey, Bears: Wonder why the socialist European airplane maker didn't choose to build the plant in California?

Airbus already has a produciton line in China. They have produced about eighty aircraft in the four years that it has been opened. McDonnel Douglas back in the early nineties allowed China to produce a handfull of MD-80/90's for their market. It's no accident that the COMAC ARJ21 is almot a mirror image of the DC-9 family. The COMAC C919 looks an awfully like the A320 IMO. Can't help but think that Airbus is slitting it's own throat just to get orders from Chinese airlines, and Boeing's throat in the process.

I'm not sure what advantage EADS/Airbus will get from opening an A320 line in Mobile when it comes to military orders. The tanker contract has been awarded to Boeing and it is highly doubtfull that the USAF will buy the A400M.

Ironic is it not that while more than a few southern politicians will rant about "socialism" at the same time they are falling all over each other welcoming Airbus to Alabama. While the French government has a share in EADS/Airbus it is not a controlling share.

Obviously California was not chosen becasue of the high cost of doing business. It will also be easier to transport parts to Moblie than it would be Southern California wether it be by sea or air. I just have to wonder what will happen when a hurricane hits that nice new plant.

I doubt that. Douglas built aircraft in Long Beach for over sixty years without any major disruptions due to earthquakes.
