According to an internal communication, there will be no sacrifice to seat pitch.. The seats themselves displace less space and therefore provided enough room for an extra row of seats.

Part of the certification for the FAA, the newly reconfigured A/C weights 630 LBS less with the new seats. So this gives 6 additional seats above the 137 and less weight. So at the typical weight average of 190 lbs per pax. Six additonal seats for more revenue adding the slimline seats is a win win. FAA is scheduled to make the approval mid-March 2012. So these new A/C will be flying the system with only 137 seats occupied until the FAA approves it.

Made their seats more uncomfortable. Note that I have read many comments on Southwest's seats and people say they are uncomfortable. Adding more seats means even less legroom so less comfort.

Wrong, son. For someone who claims to know what airlines should do you seem to have a profound lack of knowledge about the industry.

Anythings better than the 717 Avio seats!!!! I can't wait until they replace that junk! It's not quite as bad now that the XM is inop, because we don't have to worry about the wires on an armrest change, but an average armrest R&R with the recline button is an easy 20 min job, and they break quite often! You could spend an entire shift with 4 guys on an Avio interior and still not get it 100%... Like I said, can't wait!

Perhaps WN should hire you since you read many comments... I bet you could sit at Herbs' desk!

Youtube comments no less. If that's not having the finger on the pulse of the industry I don't know what is.

Lol, I will tell you what the pax's think, when is it again march???... my bet most people wont even notice extra seats,, most have a hard time figuring out if the lav is OCCUPIED or not,, so I think its a safe bet :D

NOT necessarily TRUE, according to : http://blogs.wsj.com/middleseat/2012/01/17/southwest-like-other-airlines-to-squeeze-more-comfortable-seats-into-planes/

says, pitch is going from 32 inches to 31 inches.

There actual pitch and there's effective pitch. Actual pitch is the distance between the same points on seats while effective pitch is the distance from the back of one seatback to the front of the seatback of the next seat - legroom, in other words. The first can be decreased without the passengers seeing a difference in the 2nd. One of the Middle Eastern carriers is adding thin-line seats that not only decrease actual pitch but also increase effective pitch - the passengers have more legroom and the airline gets to add more seats to sell. Talk about a win-win...
