Aa Negotiating To Go Back To Ory

What problems, Mike? The only thing I have ever seen discussed about CDG is the crappy layover hotels for flight attendants?

I can't imagine that AA WANTS to move back to ORY. My guess is that the French government is DEMANDING that AA move back to ORY so that Air France can have AA's space at CDG. The terminal collapse at CDG was all Air France space.

On a related note - the French don't know how to build an airport terminal. Gee, who would have guessed?

The hotel is great! Too bad we are leaving. It has a pool and a gym. Great dinner buffet with a 50% off for crew, access to the city as well. One of the problems was the promise of adequate gate space which we have never had. Half of our planes are always remote. Plus since the collapse we have to park airplanes on both sides of the airport. Its a major inconvenience for staff, crew and passengers.

I'm all for the move to Orly. Orly is such a more convienent airport. It is not as if AA has much through traffic in Paris, as Delta does. Orly is less congested, easier to use, and closer to downtown Paris. I can see, however, that they would be resistant towards moving to Orly because of the costs associated with such a move, but I could imagine that Paris airport officialswould be very accomadating in negotiating something favourable.

Hi Mickey
I plan to go on VAC in Paris next month. When are you guys pulling out of the hotel? & Do you know if we get a hotel discount-rate on rooms when we are not the working crew? I know Paris is very expensive now that the Euro went up.
Thanks for any info you can give ;)

I was there last week and I think the decision was made last Thursday. If you have heard already, that probably means that we are going back to Orly.
Mike is right that AIr France has been given ALL of our gate space. We are always on remotes, which makes it very inconvenient for everyone involved. And if they do have to tear down the remainder of the terminal, I am sure they will force us out as AF gets top priority in everything.
As foe the hotel, Mik it is a b eautiful hotel and the discount came about after we complained about the exhorbitant prices even with our former discount. But the location sucked. No public transport, just a bus into the city.
The discount they give us there is higher than their lower web prices and is convenient to nothing!
If you are looking for hotels in Paris , send me a personal message and I will give you some suggestions.
If you just want someplace clean, friendly, with a Parisian charme, try Hotel L'esperance in the 5th. I think their romms are about 75 euros a night, but I am not sure if they have a/c, but again contact me and I will dig some stuff up.
As you can tell, I spend half my life in Paris, even when I am not working!

The real story:

This is Lauri Curtis with an Update for June 25, 2004.

Finally, with the recent collapse of the modern terminal at Charles de Gaulle, the Paris Airport Authority has asked us to consider moving our operations to Orly to reduce congestion. While we've indicated that this is not financially viable for us, we have been given three weeks to prepare a financial impact paper in response. So the outcome of that situation is still pending.

And finally, with the situation surrounding Charles de Gaulle and whether or not we may be forced to move to Orly, this short-term agreement will provide us with some additional time to make some headway on that front. What we don't want to do is sign an agreement with a hotel based on our flying to Charles de Gaulle only to be in a situation where the Airport Authority moves us to Orly.

I wonder if they have looked into the other terminals at CDG, the ones like TWA used to use. Probably they have but none available. As for a hotel, the La Palma about a block behind the Meridan is reasonable at $100 per night.

I think you are right when you think no other gates or terminals are available. Even when we got gates they were never the same set, just what was open at the time.

Its almost comical, When we first started Paris, The french goverment forced us to ORY and AA was mad, but made the best of it. In fact Crandall and his henchmen made it work and we created our own little market share through ORY with the other way ward souls (french airlines) left to fend for themselves there. Then they decided to try to entice then force us out to CDG. The promise of gate's at the CDG airport. I dont think even the first day we got that. Now who knows ORY here we come again.

If we do move I will miss the airport hotel. Its the only time I know, I have ever said that about an airport hotel. Would love to have jat least one more trip there.

I am looking forward to going back to ORLY. If you are flying to other cities in France, Orly is the airport you need to be at. When the agents told me about possible going back to Orly they were excited as most of them live closer.
But in reality this is an all about me mentality.
We have ALOT of passengers who connect thru CDG to Eastern European countries and the former Soviet countries. So that is a big revenue loss there.
I can't imagine AA will have much of a choice but to go back, so I don't understand the study period. Unless it is just a delay tactic.

Most of the agent do not live near orly anymore, most af them moved closer to CDG ....
AA is taking care of Finnair, Cathay pacific.....Going to Orly means AA will have to stop the assistance for this two companies......so less work and two many agents.....Less revenue, to many staff, what is your conclusion about about AA staff in paris if they are moving to Orly?

Anyway, The DGAC should announce the list of the companies moving to ORY the 30th of june.....
Let's see....

Sugar,
I agree it won't be beneficial at all to the company to move back to Orly.
I can only say the agents I spoke to which were about 5 at check in, wanted to go there.
I don't think AA will have any choice on this matter. As AIr France is the national carrier and supported by their tax dollars. I just wonder if this might mean less frequecy to Paris from New York. I hope not.
And okay here comes the selfish part, moving back to Orly will probably mean that we will go back into the city, as I think only a Mercure and an Ibis are at Orly.
Correct me if I am wrong but Orly is much closer to the city, right?

Any idea what other airlines are considering moving to ORY? It could be a boon for AA being at CDG but I will bet that there will be enough world airlines that will go to make ORY a 2nd international airport again.
