Seems like the 717 may have been a plane ahead of its time. I would like to have seen AA keep the plane and buy more of them. It's a bit heavier, but it seems like it's very competitive with the E190 which is being hailed as such a great new aircraft.
Of course, it seems like carriers are going to try to make the E190 an "express" airplane - something they would not have tried with the 717. Still, the 717 may turn out to be a better buy in the end. I would imagine it's the type of plane that will still be flying in 20 years - not so sure that we'll be seeing 20-year-old E-jets in the sky.
