As I said previously, the fuel loads eastbound are significantly less than westbound.  Shorter runways on the west coast are not the problem.  Put SNA-length runways in EWR, or ATL, and it wouldn't work.  And that's why LGA won't work...because its runways re comparable to SNA in length, or lack thereof.
ah true didn't think about that.

(sorry for making you repeat I didn't notice it during the other posts)

...and SNA-ATL is 1667 NM great circle route.  LAX-LGA is 2146 NM.

Not even comparable...it's about an extra hour EASTBOUND, so probably an hour and 15 PLUS westbound.  That's a lot of fuel, and a lot of weight to get off the ground, or get stopped in case of a rejected takeoff.

which is why i added in SNA-EWR. (plus Delta pulled the 73Gs off of the route and went to 757 and from 5 daily to 3 daily.)

DL flew SNA to JFK briefly, IIRC, with a 73G. I don't recall that there were payload issues from SNA. the 73G is a high CASM aircraft for a transcon flight.

SNA-JFK was with the pocket rocket.

Didn't have any issues that I know of.
