Does anyone know if we are converting all the F/C sections of the 777 to the Atlantic version? I thought I had read something about that a while back but can not find anything to support this.

You mean the Signature seats? I've been hearing rumors about that for a long time. The way it stands now, about half the fleet has the Atlantic (Signature ) seats. The Pacific configuration uses standard First Class seats. It is not unusual however, to see a Pacific A/C on a trans-atlantic flight.

I hope they do spend the money and make F/C consistent an all the 7777 fleet. I don't like the fact that you cannot crossover with or without passengers in the cabin. But is a better product for the people who pay the most or have earned the most miles.

I like the Flagship Suites when I am traveling by myself, but I prefer the coffins when traveling with someone else, as the FS are not conducive to conversations with another passenger unless one of us gets up to sit on the legrest bench of the other. Although standardization proponents will scream at this suggestion, is it possible to have some FS and some coffins on each aircraft? That way, the singles will be pleased and the couples can converse with their seatmates. Everyone wins. I know, I know, it would never work. B)

If you can get the center set you can have a decent conversation I was in London with my boyfriend and we managed to get the center row 3 and were able to converse quite well and low key from time to time through out the flight. I am sure even easier though on the 2x2x2 configuration. I just like the privacy.

Yea I agree you cant please everyone and it seems these days you cant please anyone. Be it AA or any place. I just cant believe even at the mall how low class people behave. Adults having temper tantrums. But the I guess if you had both there will always be the case or the person who wanted one or the other and will be pissed and resentful over the whole flight and insist on telling everyone they know how bad AA is because they didn't get the type of f/c seat they wanted.

Pooksman,

Nah, this is a discussion of 2 different F/C 777 configurations, no matter how morbid it sounds with the "coffin" talk.

Is it cost-effective? I really don't know. The Flagship Suites were a royal pain on domestic. It took an hour to explain the how the Flagship Suites operated on the brief MIA-LAX transcon. Those tray tables were really heavy and it seemed the *$70,000* seats had to go manual constantly. What was the difference, 2 seats? Mostly NRSA and Celebs on domestic, what about INTL?

I personally never had 4 people attempting to have a meeting on domestic. Generally, 2 at the most.

BTW, I would give my eye-teeth to be back on that airplane, middle bins and all. Or the A300 and it's peculiar stench.

Perhaps F/A Mikey can give his International viewpoint.

Miami we almost always has the pods, ORD and JFK seem to be the ones who get the mix. The cities more than one daily. I don't do the S America and we don't have NRT, So London is all I know.

Its full fares and a few upgrades a few nonrevs here and there. Always full though. Almost everyone knows the seats, a few newbie, here and there. Just show how to turn the seat, and which button is the bed. They are happy and set to go. The most often asked question is where do I plus the headset in. Its kind of hidden. I can understand the horror of doing it on domestic. The people I have doing it INTL are interesting, fun and are in general a pleasure to serve.

We do have families from time to time eat together in the 4 but generally its a couple of business people talking work, on the double size tray table.

The worst thing is those heavy tray tables. Yea you have to come by and take them out for each seat. I would not expect a customer to take it themselves since it requires actually standing up to get it out. But I have see flight attendants and pursers who do. Amazes me.

Mikey,

The Flagship Suites weren't really a horror on domestic, just time-consuming for a flight that was not very long (MIA-LAX).

I'll never forget on one LAX-MIA flight that our flying time was 3 hours 58 minutes! I was working F/C and we were exhausted when we landed!

At that time, they had just started 777 for MIA domestic and we would see a mix of Pacific/Atlantic configurations.

We were still getting 777s delivered then, so I'm sure certain A/C numbers are dedicated to certain routes now.

Oh Coop...I just can't pass this one up. I am sure some of the TWA'ers out there will remember flight 496 STL-MIA-SJU with a nice l/o. This operated as a L-1011 with three class service. From STL-MIA leg appetizers in f/c and Ambassador seperate liquor service in all cabins...choice of three entrees in f/c and two in biz and two in Y. Block time could be less than 2:20. Cordial and desert service offered seperatly in f/c and biz.....followed by beverage service before landing and repeat this again on the 2nd leg to SJU.

Also some of our TWA'ers will remember our STL-LAX or SFO-or SEA service with a menu and a choice of 4 entrees up front followed by the sundae service. Yes, this was a seperate liquor, appetizer, seperate salad and plated entrees. You want to talk about working your fanny off!!!

3:58 flying time and a full L-1011 with 300 pax's a piece of cake. You obviously have never flown BOS-LHR with flying time depending on the time of the year at 5:45. International service with table setting carts, caviar and appetizer, salad cart, chateau cart, desert cart and don't forget duty free followed by snack service and beverages and breakfast before landing. And God forbid that you were the purser handling all her Majestys papers and if they were not correct the whole crew could be called back to the field or not allowed to leave until everything was in order.

I have flown on AA FLL-LAX and I just cannot see how hard it is. Perhaps if some of your Y f/a's would come up and assist you instead of reading or chatting perhaps you service would be easier. God forbid they break the nonexistent curtain. You Y service on transcon is minimal, so someone in the back should assist you. I have sat in F/C and have seen Y f/a's walk right by f/c pax's with empty glasses and finished trays. What's that about? Is it a not my job syndrome?

Our training was nobody is done until everyone is done.

galleyguy4u2,

I know that there have been flights with more brutal services and less flying time. No, I've never been International and it looks like I may never be. I could very well be on Domestic Availability for the rest of my career (what's left of it).

You can't compare the LAX-FLL 757 to the LAX-MIA 777. I've worked both. The 757 was easy-breezy in F/C. You didn't deal with Bose Headseats, personal movies/DVD players or how the Flagship Suites operated in F/C on the 757.

In theory at AA, "The Service isn't complete until all Services are completed".

The reality on the line is "not my cabin/not my job". Sad, but true. Mikey hit it dead-on with his last observation.

I'm personally not that F/A, because I was "raised" at one of the best "by-the-book" bases in the system (BOS). I also have learned over the years not to continually beat my head against a wall regarding other people's (in)ability to do their job.

ok my 2 cents now. I work IFS to Europe co constantly and 90% of time up front. I do not want fa's coming up to help! They get in the way!
Yes some do come up and ask for food, but the majority DON"T. They offer to help and we say no.
Mikey you need to stick up for AA f/a's as it seems some former Twa'S just can't stop putting us down! Galley4u2, yes you had it hard on those short flights back then but so did we! Times have changed and services have changed! Someday you may have to work with us lazy AA flight attendants, so try to keep things in perpective and don't let the bitterness cloud your judgement.
