Hopefully not old news....No more Timco or Pemco. 757 heavy starts back in July....767 heavy starts next month and 8 more in 2015. 56, 737 heavy checks next year. Little good news :)

Is this because the TWU has finally got the pay down low enough to have those checks done in house rather than outsourced?

I'm not sure if this is good news or very ominous, bad news.   Now Parker has a sword to hold over the Tulsa mechanics' heads.

Demand pay or benefit increases that are "too large" in Parker's view when you're negotiating a new combined M&R CBA and those planned heavy checks might just disappear.   You've seen him do it to the Envoy pilots.   He demanded even more concessions from them and when they refused, not only did they not get the new airplanes they had hoped for - but even their existing airplanes are going to other carriers.

I think it goes to show what Bob Owens has been saying is true. There are not enough mechanics, licensed or not, to accomplish all this work at these third party MRO's. AA had no choice but to bring the work back, just like the MD80's that couldn't get farmed out either. You can't think they are bringing this work back out of the kindness of their hearts!

This actually shows the position the AA mechanics are in for future negotiations is actually better and stronger. It's good news for all A&P's working at majors. UAL has to raise the bar and leap frog SWA now. I just don't have faith in the teamsters. Especially when the teamsters are saying they are shooting for $42/hr. Way behind current SWA wages.

This is the exact reason why A&P's industry wide need AMFA now. These industrial unions will not take advantage of these situation we are in. They will let these airlines walk all over us again.

And let's not forget that TUL puts out a great product.

What kinda price can you put on experience?

WOW!!!   This is very interesting news.  Yes good for the Tulsa folks.  Always glad to see and hear of more work being brought into house.  Funny you guys are mentioning Timco and AA leaving them. Our VP of maint is retiring in Sept after many many years at SWA.  We have also recently heard he is headed to Timco as President.  All this followed rumors that SWA might be looking to shift the Elsolvador work back to the USA as they have not been satisfied by the maint or quite possibly the time the A/C are down for the maint. not sure, like I said it has been all rumors.  Wondering now if our VP going to Timco, and AA pulling out, if this would be the time to transfer some maint back to the USA.  Only time will tell, but all very interesting time tables falling into place.  The things that make you go Hmmmmm...

I don't want to rin on anyone's parade, but aren't the 757s being retired except for a few for International flights?

Not only that, but if this "in" sourcing was to continue, what will be in store for all of us doWn the road? "HEY GUYS, WE CAN BRING MORE AND MORE WORK TO THE BASE IF YOU GUYS GIVE UP MORE AND MORE!

Yep, I neglected to point that out, as the 757s are already being retired, several each year, and as more A321s show up, even more 757s will depart for ROW the day before their next heavy check is due.

And those 763s?   Their retirements begin once the 787s arrive in sufficient numbers.   First couple of 787s due late this year.

Also, I have not seen ONE 757 painted in the new livery.
