Has anyone here either worked or traveled on the new 757 configuration? I am curious what your impressions were. I've seen the pictures from AA, but want to know if the new seats were comfortable, if the lavs were an upgrade and if the IFE was decent. Also for the AMT's, do all 757's have winglets yet? Anyone have the schedule for when they will continue pumping out more new international configured A/C? What about the new domestic version? Any timetable for that as well? Are the coach seats going to be the same for both versions? I know, a lot of questions. Thanks in advance for any answers.

I was told that all 757's will have new interiors in a year and a half. 18 (ETOP's configured) will have the new sleeper seats as well as new coach seats and new lavs. Capacity will be 18F and 166Y. I was told that the remaining 757's will have standard, 22 business class seats and new coach seats and lavs. The new sleeper seats appear to be similar to 777 seats. They even retained those stupid seatback comparment doors, that break and snap off. To my knowledge, all 757's now have winglets.

Agree, except that the 75L will feature 16F and the domestic 757 will feature two extra F seats for a total of 24. The closet and the mini-galley are going away. Here's the new seat map for the 75L:

I traveled the other day in coach. The new seats were crappy. The bottom seat pan moves forward when the seat reclines pushing your knees into the seatback in front of you. I feel these seats sit higher as you have to duck to look out the window. It is also hard to see the whole tv screen from the window seat. Fleet svc does not know how to service the lavs as these are not the drip system like other 75's. and placarded a lav to FLL.

The International 757 are supposed to be converted over by the end of the year. The domestic 757 program is planned to finish in 2014. The domestic 757 are getting new first class seats for a total of 24 in first.

Should be fun winging across the Atlantic in a 757 with an unserviced lav...

Don't kid yourself, the difference between a serviced vs. unserviced well lav is minimal. There's still residual stench coming out of an empty tank under that flapper. It's not like someone's hosing it out with chlorox.

"Confessions of a former AA Lav man"
(By NH/BB's)......(first edition)

While employed in BOS, I was by choice the "turn-around-Lav man"(run properly, the job was a POC...Piece of cake, once you got by the psychological aspects of the job)

As usual, during often OSO operations, NEVER would Management send out another person(even just for a critical 1 1/2 hour period), to help out with the spare HONEY WAGON !

(Time to Activate Emergency procedures...."MINE")

Back then, AA used a blue powdered concentrate, in tubes(the size of a kids Freeze Pop)
This stuff was SO POWERFUL, that 1 tube, added to ANY unserviced lav, be it unserviced for 1 day, or "1 WEEK", would, upon dumping it in the John(from the cabin level) and one "flick of the flush handle", would turn ANY LOAD,......instantly to the color of a beach in Barbados, and with a NON STINK odor that would STICK to your "best finery" for a MONTH(Minus any dry cleaning)

They could have marketed this stuff via the name......."Never STINK" !!!!!

Sadly (though), with the 757 vacuum system, .."Never STINK" would not be applicable.

BUT would work GREAT still, on the S-80's

There's a workcard now that involves putting soultion, stuff called Honeybee, in the lavs on the 757. Helps keep the smell down, or its supposed to. I have noticed that along with routing the exhaust air out the dump vlave instead of the aft cargo they don't smeel as bad in back. It used to be the back end of the 757 would make you gag. Especially in the summer.

When I see my kids eat those blue colored ice pops or drink those blue flavored drinks it turns my stomach. They dont get it.

You are right on the money there. That special airplane stink that would stick to your clothing would make you want to vomit if you smelled your clothes or uniform after coming home from a flight or as it wafted out of your hamper when you went to wash it. Not sure what's worse......human refuse or the blue lav stuff?

"mess",
I'll take the latter of the two !

As usual, this is where seniority comes in handy(for F/A's).
When I was dumping lavs during a bad OSO operation, and never got an extra person for help, I Always dumped the F/C lavs.

It(ALWAYS)..IS,........................what it IS !!!
